Question:

Whose income to use on FAFSA?

I just turned 25 and started a job and moved back in with my parents. I haven't worked for the last few years b/c my bf supported me and I was staying home with the kids. So, since they ask for income from last year and I didn't work and couldn't claim his income anyway, I'm not sure what to put. Any help?

  1. If you are not married, then you do not put your boyfriends income down unless  you are common law married.  You would report your information, income, children, and assets only.  If they are his children (and not yours) they you would not include them.  If they are both your kids, then are you sure you aren't common law married and filing your taxes together?

  2. Their FAQ sounds like you would put that you didn't file taxes and they'll ask you about income and you'd put none.
