  1. Neither, the US will beat them both

  2. The US will surely support the Philippines, so regardless of our actual strength, we will win.

Forget Malaysia, worry about China, wanting Taiwan back and the seas of f Palawan....

  3. The question is indeed a kiddie and ignorant question as pointed out by someone. The additional details help you redeemed yourself. WTG Supernova!

Dude, I don't earn a living getting Y! Answers points. Points or no points, I created account for Y! Answers. The fact is you  added details and indirectly stated that some of the answers are ignorant when your question itself is one.

  4. Of course, Malaysia  would win, hands down. They have all  means to buy arms/ammunitions  in case of war. Even if their population is  only a quarter to that of  Philippine population, their  armies  are stronger, well armed, well feed and well nourished. Philippines cannot even feed   and train  few athletes for the Olympics, how much more for  a large armies/soldiers.

  5. The second additional detail is total c**p. Won't they call in allies? You don't "compare" 2 countries.

  6. One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one.

  7. Malaysia will prevail. They have a modern air force constantly upgraded. A large fleet of helicoptors and thats undergoing replacement. Well trained and well equipped army.

I'm sorry but Philippines retired their last F5s 1 or 2 years ago and now they are depending on UH-1H  Hueys to defend Philippines? These are vietnam war era technologies.

Navy - Malaysia had submarines now and also new frigates.

Philippines - WWII Era frigates with no missiles systems only with heavy guns.

Morale of the people - Malaysia is having rapid growth and stability. Everyone is happy. Their communist emergency ( Guerilla War) had ended 2 decades ago and everywhere was peace and prosperity.

Philippines is still fighting against NPA for decades and unable to destroy them.

Enough said. How can Philippines win a regional country in a war when it cannot defeat MNLF or NPA in their own backyard?

  8. Here are some facts for you which I feel indicate more chances of Malaysia winning a confrontation over SABAH .

    Philippines

Military expenditures - percent of GDP:

    0.9% (2005 est.)

    Manpower available for military service:

    males age 16-49: 23,547,252

    females age 16-49: 23,177,487 (2008 est.)

    Manpower fit for military service:

    males age 16-49: 18,232,050

    females age 16-49: 19,827,538 (2008 est.)

    GDP (purchasing power parity):

    $299.6 billion (2007 est.)

So the Philippines spends a total of $269.6 million on its military.

    Malaysia

Military expenditures - percent of GDP:

    2.03% (2005 est.)

    Manpower available for military service:

    males age 16-49: 6,440,338

    females age 16-49: 6,280,826 (2008 est.)

    Manpower fit for military service:

    males age 16-49: 5,374,006

    females age 16-49: 5,316,865 (2008 est.)

    GDP (purchasing power parity):

    $357.4 billion (2007 est

Malaysia spends a total of $726.2 million on its military.

The Philippines out numbers the Malaysian military but is nowhere near as well equipped. Military numbers mean little if a major proportion have to fight with broom sticks.

For the Philippines to invade SABAH would require a difficult to maintain Naval Supply Chain whereas Malaysia borders Sabah .

The Philippines would also have to contend with four or five FRONTS i.e. Internal attacks from Muslim rebels in Mindano, scattered attacks by the NPA, open rebellion in Sabah, counter attacks by Malaysia first in Sabah and then on the Philippines itself.

That is the scenerio as I see it without any outside interference.

  9. I think it's Malaysia.  They are richer than us for goodness sakes'.  Just my two cents' worth though.

And one thing more, the Sabahan people would also fight through the teeth to remain Malaysians.  Dude, they believe Filipinos have no business staking claim over Sabah, plain and simple.

  10. I would say the Philippines could win because there are more people in the Philippines, hence a bigger Army. But then again, fighting on someone else's turf puts even the most powerful army at a disadvantage. Also, I think Malaysians buy Russian weapons all the time and the Philippines has American ones. Latter are better quality.

Then you have the morale problem. Why would Pinoys want to fight Malaysians? Filipinos are not known for invading other countries except as workers. How fiercely would they fight? Hmm, hard to say.

  11. Dude, this is a kiddie question. How do we know who'll win between the two? We can only assume. Unless someone here have been or at least observed both Malaysian and Philippine military.

In theory, military with a top notch intelligence and tactics, supplied with the best and accurate weapons and ammunition in the hands of brave and disciplined soldiers will be successful but that's not always the case if you study all the major wars that have happened in the world.
