Well personally i think i am on the side of the Georgians. I believe that territory was theirs and they have the right to take it back. As for Russia moving in and practically taking over half the country, well i find that to be quite similar to Cold War tactics. I think Russia needs to realize this isn't 1969 and they just can't assume the role as Eastern European Police Force. But enough of me rambling...what do YOU think!

  1. I'm on neither side simply interested in what happened. In this case it was Russia but Georgia that attacked South Ossetia killing many civilians, Russia retaliated.

Nothing to do with cold war like tactics. Of course media failed to mention when skirmishes started between Georgia and S.O, it was Russia that brought a resolution in the security council rejected by US. It was Russia that called for peaceful resolution again rejected by US.

S.O has been independent since 1992, they have made it clear they want nothing to do with Georgia, and majority of S.O have Russian citizenship. S.O army fought alongside Russia against Georgia. So if Kosovo is allowed to be independent why not S.O.???

Before the fight began between Russia and Georgia, behind the scenes Russia had warned Georgia against any attack on S.O. Russians were prepared.

. . . and contrary to what is being perpetuated by the media, Georgia is NOT a democracy. It is corrupt and totalitarian regime. A police state no better than Russia.

  2. I really don't know which side to take.  Russia had peace keepers in a country that was not theirs, but was there because the providence wanted independence from Georgia. I don't know if their independence meant that they would be free or just absorb into russia. That makes me wonder about russia.

I think it is just a reality and a norm for any country to keep states and providences together. It's not like the US is just going to let Texas go. In fact, they didn't let the south go and now it's called treason if you try.

What really gets me is that this providence has support from people in our own country but god help us if a US state tried that stunt.

  3. What I think?

I think that the Georgian government was wrong in the first place to attack and try to evict the South Ossetia's civilians (regardless of whose land it was).  And I think it is wrong of Russia to defy the truce after Russia agreed to stop.

But, I am not quite sure what is happening now.

  4. I support Russia.

The Georgians attacked South Ossetia killing thousands and creating over 100,000 refugees who fled to the Russian border refugee camps.

South Ossetia wanted independence.  That was the sole reason for Georgia's attack.

  5. I'm going to Africa.

  6. Georgia. Guess you missed Glenn Beck tonight. The President of Georgia was his guest via satellite. Russia wants to reunite all it's breakaway provinces that were once the USSR. Georgia is one of them and is a free democratic country. Russia doesn't want any other such countries to stand up for freedom so they are crushing them before the ripple effect begins.

Putin wants a cold war. Last year, Russia turned the natural gas off that supplied 50% of all Europe to send a clear message. Now Russia also wants the oil.

Let's not forget, Germany invaded Poland claiming Poland attacked them.  Two other countries, same thing but the names elude me.

  7. I don't yet know who to believe here or if they're both lying or if there's more going on that we don't know about. I sure as h**l don't trust Putin. Would you trust a former KGB agent? I do think someone else needs to step in and kick Russia out if they won't leave. Then we need to create a buffer zone between Georgia, the separatists, and the Russians and figure out what really happened here.

  8. How would we know which side to be on when we get our news from the anti America mass media? That is all just propaganda.

  9. I am neutral.

  10. Actually the story you hear on the news is wrong, Georgia first took some of the land and Russia is just retaliating. The news only say what they want you to hear. The US taking the Georgians side is in my opinion a major mistake, I don't it'd be wise if Russia and the US had conflicts, considering they are almost as strong as us.
