Personally i think snooker player everytime. They play on a larger table with smaller pockets for longer periods of time. Personally i can't see why a snooker player can't outplay a pool player even at pool, (micheal holt world 8-ball champion). And many snooker players who have fallen bellow the level neccesary for snooker go to pool (Steve Davis) in which case why dont american pool players aim to play snooker in thier prime?

  1. As others rightfully said, this comapison is not valid. Both games require a different set of skills. The transition from snooker to pool may be a bit easier since a good snooker player is a h**l of a shot maker. But that does not mean that is easier to excel in pool. What it comes down to is that you need consitency in both games. However, the kind of shots you make are quite different.

The fact that no pool player made himself a name in snooker doesn't proove a thing. Pool is a lot more action and gives me much more immediate satisfaction. I cannot play snooker well since I don't have the patience for it and thus no motivation to invest the necessary time to improve.

  2. Snooker is certainly the tougher game but I would guess that professional pool players make more money.  Now I'm not so sure that the Filipino pool players aren't in the same league talent wise as the snooker players.  As a fan you know what I mean.

  3. Apples and oranges.  I'll grant you that snooker players are extremely accurate shotmakers, but here are some key reasons why that don't always excell at pool.  First of all, they can't break very well in games that require an open break like 8-ball or 9-ball.  There's never a need in snooker to smash open the balls with any real force.  Secondly, they aren't adept at cheating the pocket to gain position.  In snooker, the small pockets simply don't allow it.  Third, they aren't especially good at using sidespin, again a factor of the small pockets.  Now, I'll admit that I'm a huge fan of staying on the vertical axis of the cue ball whenever possible, so I won't fault snooker players for doing this.  Fourth, they aren't used to the rules.  In pool there's a cushion contact requirement for a legal shot which doesn't exist in snooker.  Yes, it is a little bit lopsided.  No American has ever finished in the top 100 of any major European snooker final and a few snooker players have done very well in pool.  Alison Fisher and Karen Corr are the two most popular examples.  Let me ask you this, would you rather play a game where you could be one of the best or even the very best or one where you have virtually no chance of finishing in a respectable place?  Not to sound sexist, but this is exactly why professional women players are the largest opponents of mixed play.  They know full well that if men and women played side by side, the women would rarely crack into the top ten and almost never win the tournament.  I'm not trying to sound like a chauvenist, but it's been tried before and this is how it always ends up.  There have been a few pool players who have done well in snooker.  Willie Mosconi was once noted to have beaten a champion snooker player in an exhibition match.  Efren Reyes is very skilled at snooker.  So a lot of it boils down to familiarity.  Players will tend to be better at what they grew up playing.  It's two different skill sets, like Johnny says.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  4. A Snooker player can beat a pool player in their game but no way a pool player can succeed in Snooker

  5. How did Ronnie do against Johnny Archer???

    Not so well

I will play 9 ball with any snooker player on the planet. It is not as agressive a game as we play show me a 5 cushion safty in snooker or a 3 cushion kick shot A cross table combo, you will never see that kind of play in a snooker match making a shot is not even half of a game of pool  How many snooker players can bank a ball and go down table to break a cluster and hold position all in the same shot If they made a simple 3 rail bank shot it would be on the front page of every newspaper in London .

And if I remember Allison Fisher was not to hot when she first started over here

Sadly for snooker its not very popular over here

Its an entirely diffrent game-I can do an above average run at snooker but its not my game

how would a vollyball player do in a tennis match same thing or Mike Tyson in kick boxing

                                 Later Johnny
