A spill is considered hazardous waste and is [very expensive] to dispose of. Also, mercury vapors, which are colorless, and odorless, can expose lab and clean-up personnel to hazardous levels of mercury. REM personnel respond to mercury related cleanups on campus. These cleanups account for 75% of our spill responses.

The president wants you to do this he's trying to get us all killed? He passed a law about banning Incandescent Light Bulbs is 2014.

DON'TS

Never pour mercury down the drain

Never burn mercury

Never put mercury in the trash

Never allow people whose shoes or clothing may be contaminated with mercury to walk around the room or into a hallway.

Never use an ordinary vacuum or a shop vacuum to clean up mercury

  1. Im not so sure its a good plan myself but according to this article.  http://www.associatedcontent.com/article...  Australia and Canada have similiar bans and hope to do it sooner than we do.

Theres some good info in the article about what it could mean as far as reducing greenhouse gases.  Check it out if you get a chance.

  2. If we get coated with radium then we would all glow. No need for lights.

  3. your out of your mind. I used to play with mercury in my hands, straight out of a thermostat, as have millions of others.

    you are a drama queen.

I hope nobody listens to your rambling spew.

  4. i think its a great idea, by REM do you mean the band?

  5. Do the test for yourself, and then conclude whether the incandescent light bulb should go the way of the dinosaur.

Try to touch a 40 watt bulb when lit, and then touch a spiral flourescent bulb when lit.

You can't keep your hand on the incandescent too long, but the spiral one will feel slightly warm.

Magnify this to usage, and see where it's an important step toward conserving energy and helping out the environment.

However, there is much more that needs to be done.

I am hoping our next president has the intelligence to get our world working in harmony toward reducing toxins in our environment, fining severely corporate polluters, and giving tax incentives for anyone who purchases better energy systems for home and vehicle use.

I want to see this debated, and I want to see who will be bold enough to take us in the right direction.

It's a matter of keeping the corporate polluters from polluting our elected officials with P.A.C. (Political Action Committee) money.

  6. Incandescent bulbs should be phased out.  The deadline is far enough in the future for all of us to but fluorescent each time we replace a bulb.

  7. You are obviously an idiot who knows nothing about how laws are made in the USA.  The President does not pass laws, Congress does that.  The President either signs the bill passed by Congress in which case it becomes law or he vetos it in which case it is returned to Congress.  Congress can overturn the veto and make the bill law anyway if they can get enough votes.

The law in question does not ban incandescent light bulbs.  What it does is establish energy use standards for lights.  Conventional incandescent bulbs cannot meet these standards, but there are already advanced incandescents that do.  CFL bulbs and LED bulbs also meet the standard.
