Who’s going to Edgbaston for The Ashes 2009?

I’ve already got my tickets for Day’s 1–4 and can’t wait!!

If you’re a Barmy Army or Warwickshire member you can buy them now, if not you will have to wait. The Army has got a cunning plan up their sleeves involving t-shirts and as long as it all works, it’s going to look awesome! In addition, Edgbaston are the only ground (so far) who are allowing Billy ‘The Trumpet’ Cooper to play, so how could you miss that? If you do want to buy tickets, you need to act fast, over 20,000 tickets have already gone.

Here are the prices per head for one day, incase you wanted to know:

Members - £60.00

Non Members - £75.00

Junior - £20.00

Junior in the Family Stand - £10.00

Disabled - £20.00 (Wheelchair user only) with free helper.

Disabled Junior - £7.50 (Wheelchair user only) with free helper.

Now okay, the prices have increased a bit (back in 2005 they were only £42 if I remember correctly) however, to me not going to The Ashes is simply not an option. Plus, it’s much cheaper than what I spend going on abroad tours.

So I was just wondering how many of your faces I’ll be seeing next year? Are any of you Australians coming over for a visit?

And what do you think about the prices? Will the other grounds charge more, less or just as much?

Thanks :)

  1. Not unless your buying me some tickets

    *hint hint*

  2. 75 quid, you've got to be joking.hardly socialists the cricket authorities are they.l love edgebaston great atmosphere. Both sides will be weaker this time around, but l can't wait....hang on l don't have sky,it's not on telly,l am boycotting TMS as it's gone very down market. So l won't see or hear anything

  3. well the prices are all pretty irrelevant to me cos there is no chance i will be in england to watch

what i am wondering tho, is why are you and Kookee so excited? why are you so excited at forking out all this money to see your team get hammered, ok well i presume Kinneys desire to get her hands in Ian Bell could explain some of it, but why spend all that cash to see your team get smashed LOL

EDIT: ah i think Jake just explained it for me, obviously Kinney is the one who has been chosen to frisk the players for Murray Mints, tho in one particular players case it could be more "groping" than frisking LOL

  4. no way i will watch it in tv...

  5. At those prices, I will be watching it on TV instead.

  6. I'm relying on my cousin to try and get us some tickets down in Glamorgan - but even then he's said if he gets one ticket, it's his. d**n him. It'll probably be the TV for me. The only club I should have membership for next season is Essex, which doesn't really help. At all.

Is a junior under 16? If it is, then my family would be looking at £300+ for a day out. Can't see them going for it really... I think I'll stick to my idea of having a digital radio with TMS on when I'm at sixth form... :D

I agree with Sarah about the London games, their prices must be over the top, surely?

  7. I will admit that £60/75 quid is a bit too much for a game of cricket and god only knows what they'll be charging for the London games. It will be difficult for a lot of people to afford those prices in the current climate. Not to mention that many won't actually get to follow the games because they'll be on Sky. I agree with The Oracle, the ECB have effectively whored out the rights to one of our biggest summer sports to a TV station that the majority don't have access to, which is highly unfair.

But I will be going to one of the Ashes matches, it won't be the Edgbaston Test though, it'll probably one of the London ones (and it will actually cost me less traveling to London+ticket than it would for me to travel up north+hotel+ticket). I don't care how much it costs me to go, I'll bankrupt myself and max out my credit cards if I have to, like I did when I went to the Oval for the last home series lol. I'm already around £15,000 grand in debt because of student loans, what's another £180 quid on top of that for a couple of games of cricket! And like you, not going to an Ashes series isn't an option, I've been to the last few series, I might as well keep up the tradition.

  8. I am going over there to 'frisk' all the players for Murray Mints, lol.

No, to far to go for a series we are sure to win. lol

  9. I am a working man with a mortgage, and can't afford those prices. Especially with the current financial situation in Britain. Gordon Brown can stand fawning over the Olympic sports stars all he likes; he hasn't got me fooled. The countries in a mess, we're flat broke, and everyone everywhere is trying to rip us off.

£75 per day? No thanks, I'll watch it on TV.

What with grounds charging astronomical prices, and the ECB selling the TV rights to a station that a large proportion of the population doesn't have access to, cricket will soon become a minority sport in this country.

Perhaps it will then become an Olympic event.
