  1. Anything that are above or beyond normal is considered paranormal. Phenomenon that are very hard to explain that even science finds it hard to understand, that's paranormal. Until now, very few people really believe in the existence or occurence of paranormal phenomenon. There are always "experts" who will try to explain how strange things happened in relation to what is normally acceptable.

  2. Beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation: such paranormal phenomena as telepathy; a medium's paranormal powers.

  3. Not scientifically explainable,  supernatural.

    The definition of supernatural:

1 : of or relating to an order of existence beyond the

observable universe ; especially of or relating to God

or a god, demigod, spirit, or devil.

2a : departing from what is usual or normal especially

so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature.

2b : attributed to an invisible agent as a ghost or spirit.

  7. Paranormal is that which falls outside of what could be described as normal.  This usually refers to those things, like ghosts, ESP, PK, etc., that exist as a perceived phenomenon but which have no place or explanation in the current body of science.

  8. Actually the word hints at another realm or another world.

We all pretty much know the meaning of normal.  If you are unfamiliar with it's meaning check out this site:   http://www.yourdictionary.com/normal    Normal means different things in different fields of study.

The most common meaning of normal implies conformity with the established norm or standard for its kind, i.e. normal intelligence.  This suggests that idiots and geniuses are abnormal in our society.  (tsk, tsk)

Para is a Greek prefix meaning "along side of"

So in an etymological sense, paranormal is not beyond the normal it is alongside the normal.  It is not extra ordinary, of the devil or anything else, it just is.

Look at what Sigmund Freud did for psychology.  The id, superego, consciousness, libido, etc.  These are alongside of all the other things we are in this life.  Paranormal is just another word to describe another reality.  A reality we really don't know much about.

  9. Paranormal :

Paranormal is an umbrella term used to describe unusual phenomena or experiences that lack an obvious scientific explanation. In parapsychology, it is used to describe the ostensibly psychic phenomena of telepathy, extra-sensory perception, psychokinesis, ghosts, and hauntings. The term is also applied to UFOs, some creatures that fall under the scope of cryptozoology, purported phenomena surrounding the Bermuda Triangle, and other non-psychical subjects. Stories relating to paranormal phenomena are widespread in popular culture and folklore, but the United States National Science Foundation has stated that mainstream science does not support paranormal beliefs.
