  1. Well besides Co2 trees play a psychological factor to the residents and visitors. Likely its a ploy to attract tourists and to get people photographing the more decorated parts of the city.

Actually Co2 probably played no part in the planting of the trees in the city planing... they are really there just because a city is a place where people dont naturally belong and its likely to trick your mind into feeling more comfortable living in an unnatural landscape.

  2. Trees serve several functions:

    1. They clean the air.  They absorb and filter out pollutants.

    2. They absorb CO2 and produce oxygen.

    3. They are Nature's air conditioners.  The temperature beneath a tree is about 10 degrees cooler due to shade, but also because the tree is putting out water into the air.

    4. They are sound buffers, reducing city noise.

    5. They have esthetic value.  They are beautiful and calming.  People have an innate need to be around nature.

  3. Because of CO2 emmisions. Cities produce the most (well they consume the most energy). Since trees absorb CO2 and give out O2 tree's ofset the emmisions.

  4. just like the islands, or mountains, it may have something to do with oxegen, and recycling of

  5. because they help to reduce the amount of c02 in the atmosphere and it better that they are in the city than in the countryside because often in built up cities much of the air stays there for a long time. hence why in some huge cities the air sometimes gets dangerous because of all the c02
