It's an excellent question, but I would suggest that it's more on the order of about 160,000 years of evolution within H. sapiens (based on C-14 dating methods).  The best answer is that fitness, amongst women, was based more on pelvic proportion and breast size than it was on facial beauty or fitness, i.e. sexiness.  The regrettable result is that heavy women and unattractive women still remain part of the species.  They can become Feminists and artificially select themselves out of the evolutionary process, ideally.

I could say the same but substitute the word 'women' for 'men' i.e. "Why, after tens of thousands of years of natural selection in humans, do we still have so many ugly men?", but I wouldn't want to be that superficial, rude and dameening to the opposite s*x just to make myself feel better!

The idea that women should have to be attractive according to male standards is in itself insulting. Any compliments from men directed at a women and what they consider attractive about her body reinforces female subservience and compliance to male expectation because the man giving the compliment is in a (higher) position to pass judgement and women seem to be there merely to be commented on and judged by men.

I'm not saying women don't like to be considered attractive but I am saying that men should not be demanding that women should adhere to whatever men find attractive. Your question is very insulting because it suggests women should be attractive for your viewing pleasure, not for their own happiness as equals to men.

Woohoo go Zorro!!!!  Inner beauty is so underrated these days.

Firstly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but in contemporary society women are compared to an unrealistic, unnatural ideal "official" version of beauty - not surprisingly this means many women are found wanting in comparison to it, even though they may attempt to change themselves and be miserable and ill in the process.

What needs to change is the beauty myth ideal which keeps women chained in insecurity and unhappiness.  It's a way of controlling women.  Once women are free of the cultural ideal of beauty which is so harmfully imposed on them, they will be free to feel beautiful and men will be free to realise the beauty within each of them.

We focus so much on female "beauty" it is oppressive.

What's ugly is asking a question such as this one.
