When the Republic of Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in February 2008, many countries were quick to recognize it has a legitimate state. By now, over 44 countries worldwide recognize the Republic of Kosovo. The Republic of China (Taiwan) is also recognized by 22 countries. However the international community refuses to recognize other unrecognized states that have been fighting for their independence for many years; Republic of Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Republic of South Ossetia, Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, Palestinian State, Republic of Cabinda, etc. Why are some states recognized as legitimate states almost instantly after their declaration of independence, while others are never recognized?

  1. Usually that part has everything to do with of whom the aspiring state is seeking independence and if Imperialists have gains to make economically or geopolitical

  2. Well in the case of Palestine.

The Palestinians have never tried to become a state.

    The have never declared statehood.

They have never petitioned the UN General Assembly for recognition.

So why would any other country recoginse them as a state, when they don't want to be a state.

Tiawan is the same, they have never declared Statehood.

They have never asked the UN to recognise them as a state.
