First I would like to address that I want no ignorant answers, meaning "weed is bad because: it kills people, it's illegal, the bible says..." In other words, no uneducated, or religiously biased answers, thank you.

I ask this question to spread knowledge.

but first a bit of info from myself.

Marijuana, is Not addictive except for mental addiction

the term gateway drug is subjective IMO because while it does introduce people to other drugs/connections, would it still be a gateway drug if it was legal, eliminating a black market industry and connections to other drugs?

Why weed is illegal:

* Racism & religion- the first prohibition of marijuana was in

1915 when Mormons traveling back from Mexico brought weed, the church was not pleased and ruled against the plant, because the state of Utah enshrined church doctrine as law, the use of weed became illegal- it was also seen as coinciding with the rise of JAZZ "Marihuana influences Negroes to look at white people in the eye, step on white men's shadows and look at a white woman twice." a 1934 newspaper

* Fear-Mexicans, Blacks and other foreigners were snaring white children with marijuana; and two, the story of the "assassins."

* Protection of Corporate Profits-William R. Hearst, owner of a chain of newspapers, was "recruited" by Harry J. Anslinger because of his hate for mexicans and also because Hearst didn't want the competition from hemp paper

* Yellow Journalism-Being racist against mexicans helped Hearst sell papers, and mexicans smoked weed

* Ignorant, Incompetent, and/or Corrupt Legislators

* Personal Career Advancement and Greed-Harry J. Anslinger and William R. hearst- Anslinger saw The Narcotics Bureau as an amazing career opportunity and cashed in on America's fear and racism by exploiting marijuana

so basically weed is illegal because of religion (seperation of church and state??) and an opportunist

I would appreciate it if you would actually take time to research the subject, because it is better to take charge than to be a mindless sheep

  1. Fine let's do that, great idea. You libs can legalize and smoke all the weed you want. Then once the death toll from all of the car accidents under the influence of sweet ole mary-jane gets too high, you will blame conservatives since a REP is in the white house, even with a DEM controlled congress. While you are at it, let's lower the drinking age to fifteen and test infants to see if we can get humans to develop an immunity to cancer. Bravo for you brilliantly enlightened stance.

  2. Its would be illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana, dumby.

And plus it effects driving but not that much.

I wanna say to all those people who are gonna say it kills brain cell, that it doesnt kill anymore brain cells that a cigarrette.

  3. I think it is time for Health class again. Your body and mind is a precious gift. The drug has 400 chemicals in it. However, when used it has double the amount. While it may cause short-term effects. The consequence is severe. One of the most vital organs is being effected: your lungs. So if you want to see if you can still live without your lungs. Be my guest. By the way. That is the reason why marijuana was band in the first place; not because of religion. Second, study more on your government. Separation of Church and State means something totally different than people think. What is meant is that the State or government cannot control the church nor can it establish a national church like England does. A person from a church can be a part of government does not mean the church controls the state. The definition of a church is a place where a group of people gather together to worship and have fellowship.

  5. Does living in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) for 20 years count as research? Also I have smoked since my 18th and I am now 50.

I gave up with my 2 pregnancies and for the breastfeeding phase and would have stayed 'straight' where it not for the fact that not smoking made attending parties where everyone else was stoned rather dull. I was a weekend smoker for a few years then something truly awful happened in 1996 and I started smoking every day again.

I am currently in week 4 of abstainence as I think 50 is a good age to change my lifestyle for something healthier and I am spending all the money I save on membership to a really swish gym.

So I think I qualify as a minor expert here.

In all that history the only gateway I found in daily use of marijuana was the one that leads you to smoking tobacco when you can't get any weed.

Smoking is bad... end of story.

A lifetime of stonedness has contributed to my already lazy nature, but at least I have an excuse for my persistent underachievements and rampant forgetfulness.

I have had reasonable success as a commercial writer - weed helped and unhelped in equal quantities in that case.

Weed stopped me from having any driving amibition and any ambition to drive. These could be viewed as good or bad according to your mindset (and location).

Weed made me eat lots of things in the middle of the night that I would have had the sense to leave alone. - . but seeing as I have had problems with being underweight at times - this could be seen as a benefit.

Weed may have contributed to the degree of embarrasing behaviour during my mid-life crisis.... such as dancing all night at raves wearing flourescent clothing and kissing lots of Israeli boys, but that could have been the liquid LSD or the X.

When I lived in India I used to smoke about 5 - 10 grams of charas per day and this definately contributed to me getting pregnant. I happen to be very pleased about that, but I could have just as easily seen it as a bad thing I suppose, but there's not much else to do in the Monsoon anyway.

In the early 80's in London buying weed caused me to spend more than the usual amount of time with Rastafarians listening to loud Dub music. Again, highly subjective... could be seen as a bad thing although I personally would do it all again at the drop of a hempen hat.

I could go on (and on) - but anyone reading this will by now realise that having my mind opened on a regular basis has allowed me the gift of vision - and what I see is that there are no black OR white situations and that all concepts are mutable.

Good and bad are only concepts, apart from smoking, which, as I said - is just bad.

  6. You get Hi.

    You get really happy.

    Everything is really interesting.

    Your hi goes away.

    Everything seems really sad.

    You are randomly depressed.

It's bad because it makes you think that it is the only thing that can make you truly be happy and have fun. I had to try is twice, to see what it was like for my own being to be against it. I'll tell you now that it is not worth feeling a stupid fake happy for so long you get sick of it.
