Because it remains a good theory: it makes a successful explanation of observations, and withstands criticism because there is no proof against it. It's grasp holds testament to the reason it is a theory in the first place.

because it's scientifically, logically and empirically the best explanation of the origin of the universe.

the big bang is an awesome theory: it masquerades as scientific fact despite the only real evidence being that everything is moving away from everything else.

what i like even more is the idea of the big crunch: where everything suddenly gets lonely, decides its made the wrong decision; and moves back toward the event horizon.

where science stands at odds with religion on almost every frontier, you have to hand it to religion: at least it sticks to its guns and says that there can be no other way.

the big bang theory prevails because in the eyes of science: no one can come up with a better explanation; kind of like how we all continue to support the western democratic election process.
