  1. I think it boils down to a simple thing, manners! People dont have many. And many think that because you are paid to serve you are also paid to put up with whatever they dish your way. Its really something that speaks of their upbringing and is a reflection of their poor social skills. Good luck and remember its nothing personal, they are simply to stupid to behave any other way.

  2. As long as the waitress is nice and polite that gets reciporcated every time.  I try to treat everyone as equals.  Plus a lot of waitresses are so nice I couldnlt be rude if I tried :)

  3. When I dine out, I find that my attitude mirrors the server's.  If they approach my table upbeat & making jokes, & engaging me I'll do the same.  If my server seems less than enthused about making my dining experience a pleasant one, it's kind of a downer.  However, as long as they're efficient & paying attention to what I order, how full my beverage is, etc, I'll still be nice to them & tip them well.  It's the upbeat ones that I pay the most attention too, though.  I know that there are people out there who are unpleasant & servers must go through so much, & to still be friendly & joking around with me get my utmost respect.

  4. Some people are just rude.

My family occasionally goes out for dinner. There are 12 of us (with six kids nine and under). My dad and sisters don't seem to realize that the way the ask for things and order is rude. I'm forever apologizing to our wait staff.

My family also does not tip well, so I've gotten into the habit of overtipping when I'm with them.

It's sad, but it's reality. You've just gotta keep smiling and work through the idiocy. That's life. :(

  5. I try to be the kind of customer I'd want if I was a server.  I'm respectful, smile, don't hit on the server, tip appropriately, etc.  All I ask is that the server be the kind of server she'd want if she was a customer.

There's no percentage in being mean to someone who has unsupervised access to something you're about to eat.

  6. Well, it depends on a lot.

I always try to be polite because I loathe rude people.

    Oh, and by the way,

from personal experience (not from the waitressing side)

if you draw a little smiley face on the check,

    you will get tipped more.

It always just makes my day when I see it, and notice other people I dine with smile and leave generous tips if they see it.

(In case you don't already know this)
