why is the book, the adventures of huckleberry finn so often banned in many schools, communities, and libraries? What are the effects of book banning, in your opinion

  1. Because of language and flouting authority. I won't give my opinion on effects however, because those "opinions" you all ask for usually end up as your essays.

Orignally it was excluded from libraries, and was discourraged from being read because when first published they caracterised it as rough, coarse and inelegant and felt the book to be more suited to the slums than to intelligent, respectable people (remember this was published in 1885). 123 years on, it is now banned in many schools etc. Because of controversy over whether Huckleberry Finn is racist or anti-racist, and because the word "******" is frequently used in the novel, many have questioned the appropriateness of teaching the book in the U.S. public school system.
