Question:

Why , when I ask questions about my PS3, do I get adverts for 'free' PS3's?

Even when I say I will report these answers! I might be asking about whats a good peripheral for my PS3, (which I obviously already own!) and then I get loads of pasted links to ropey sounding websites for suspicious sounding offers. Are the users who ask these (who always have low points so must be new users) working for these companies? Whats, uh, the deal?

And by the way, lol, any adverts will definitely be reported!

  1. i have never understood that neither? strange though - I mean if you have a n ps3 and ask a question about it - why would you need a free one!

    Here, Here I agree!

  2. They get points or whatever for referrals so when you click the links (and sign up) it helps them.

In a sense they are working for the companies - they fill out forms, click on adverts and so on and that helps the site make money. They make you fill out loads of stuff (most of which will get you nowhere) and eventually (if you are lucky) they will give you something

Edit: it's not a program. Just people who have joined up to a site in the hope of gettting something free and are now copying and pasting their advert/link. They'd reply in the same way as anyone else

  3. it makes me angry as well. it just proves that those people will do anything in life for free stuff, unlike us hard working people who can easily go to the store and pick up the greatest console of all time.

  4. I just got a free PS3! You just have to go to...

    Just kidding :D

It's annoying me too, I don't think we can do anything about it, they always look up questions that at least mention "PS3" and paste that fudging link there.

  5. That's a spambot program doing it. That website's owner tries to increase the traffic this way. Annoying, huh? But it must be a well written spambot, since Yahoo! crew can't deal with it...

  6. dude, its spam

  7. people aren't asking these questions computers are. its spam, and the computer searches for anything that says ps3, wii, xbox, ipod, etc. and it will plug in answer saying that you can get a free ps3. its annoying, because i ask a question, nobody is answering, and i finally see what new message hoping it will be an answer when it turns out its just more spam. most of my questions are hit with spam
