my accord's key has been acting up, i used to be able to press a button to lock and unlock my doors, but now it doesn't and if it does respond its after many tries, am i out of batteries? Also, i have an extra key from when i bought the car, i thought i might as well use it, but it doesn't work! it gets no response when i press the button to unlock the door. Also, my extra key and my old one, both starts off the alarm everytime i put my key into the car door to unlock. So my question for you is, what is the problem? and what should i do?

by the way when i do get it to unlock, (which is hard because i have to use my old key which hardly responds), i am able to start the engine so thats not a problem, the problem is the old key doesnt work in unlocking the car door manually ( and causes the alarm to go off, which is strange) and only works by the remote, which hardly responds. the extra key doesnt work at all!

thanks so much i know its a lot to read, i appreaciate your help!

  1. there should be a red LED light at the top of the key that will blink when you press the lock or unlock button.  if the light doesn't blink the battery is dead.  That sounds to be the problem with your remotes.  the battery can be replaced easily.  some keys have a round circle on the back that unscrews to expose the battery.  if you don't have a round access cover then the battery is replaced by taking out the small s***w in the base of the key and separating the case halves

you can reprogram the remotes if you change the batteries and they still don't work properly.  often times remotes lose their memory if they are left next to a cell phone or other electronic device.

you can reprogram the remotes by following the procedure below:

you need to sit in the drivers seat with all of the doors closed for this programming procedure to work. leave the doors unlocked when you start the procedure.

    1. put the ignition key in the ignition but do not turn it on. hold the remote to be programmed in your left hand.

    2) with your right hand, turn the ignition key to the ON postion so that the lights on the dash come on. you do not need to start the car. within 3 seconds, push the lock button on the remote in your left hand.

    3) turn the ignition key to the off position. then turn the ignition key to the ON position agai. within 3 seconds press the lock button on the remote. then turn the ignition key OFF.

    4) repeat that procedure 2 more times. on the 4th cycle you should hear the transmitter operate the door locks. and the doors should lock. then use the remote to open the doors. after that, turn the ignition key to the OFF position. your transitter will be programmed to the vehicle.

    hope that helps

  2. when you unlock the door with the key and the alarm goes off then the door lock cylinder switch is bad. if you take the door panel off and look at the back of the lock you will see it has 2 wires coming off of it. when you unlock with the key it tells the security system to disarm. if it don't get the signal then the alarm goes off. with the remotes make sure you have good batterys in them then try to reprogram using the method from above
