Why's my 14 week old son crying more???

He's started to wake up and cry, which he's never done. He's taking 7-8oz formula usually every 4-5 hours but is now not satisfied as he screams the second his bottle is empty. It seems I just try everything with no result...then he snaps out of it then goes to sleep or is alert. Our clinic is already concerned about his weight gain (now 22lb 2oz) so feeding him more frequently worries me but I don't wanna starve him! My HV hasn't been much help, probably cuz I'm no longer breastfeeding. I'm feeling really low at the moment anyway and am feelin like I can't cope. He is still sleeping thru the night no problem about 9pm till 6/7am. Any ideas what it may be??? I'm quite sure he isn't teething.

  1. Well maybe its the house your living in or maybe he is not comfortable In The Home  if u cant comp ask a family member to help your go along hope its alright ! x*x

  2. sometimes babies can't tell tell when there full so you have to cut him off

  3. He may well be having a growth spurt so wants to feed more.  You will usually find that they will put weight alot more easily at this age as the baby is not walking or crawling but the weight will start to level out once he's on the move.  You can offer him cooled boiled water in between feeds.  What formula are you using?  As I know SMA does one for more hungrier babies, thats worth a try. As far as teething goes, babies usually start teething from 10 weeks but it may not be noticable to you yet as the teeth aren't cutting through.  Once he's had his feed, just take him out for a little stroll depending on what time of day it is or entertain him with fun toys or a rattle, anything to distract him from wanting to feed more.

As he is 17 weeks then he will most likely be teething, give him a gel teething ring to munch on after his feed.  You can put it in the fridge before you give it to him to cool his gums down.  I started my baby on soilds at around 18-19 weeks, just a a few teaspoons or so of baby rice at lunch time or dinner time.  HV will always advise not to start early.  If you have allergies in your family such as nut allergies etc then it is best to wait closer to 6 months but if not then there is no reason why you cant give him a few spoonfuls made with formula milk so he is more satisfied.  Closer to 6 months you can start offering him more of the baby rice and finger food such as baby rusks.

  4. My niece was like that. Screamed the moment the first bottle was empy, so  we gave her another 7 0z. bottle and she was satisfied. She was a chubby baby, but now she is 18 years old 5 feet 8 and 140 pounds. I say if they are hungry feed them. Good luck. Is there someone that can watch the baby for you  for a few hours so that you can regroup, rest and look forward to tonight?

  5. start solids! Ignore the govm guidelines! ESP if he is that big, he will have a bigger tummy! he is hungey!good luck
