Why ARE men called players and women labeled as, well, you know?

I'm taking a neutral stance, but recently I heard an interesting answer. Apparently being a player requires some degree of skill, while anyone can be a w***e.

Are these labels something that their own gender assigns to themselves?

Aren't they both equally disgusting?

it's because of a stigma.  women around the world are still "checked" to see if they're a virgin.  virginal women were the standard and praised.  i think it's partly because before birth control everyone knew your business.  it's pretty easy to tell if a woman gets pregnant and she's not married that she's had s*x and that's not a good thing.  it's not easy to tell who the man was or to tell if a man has had s*x before.

In our culture and most other cultures around the world women could make a living from selling themselves sexually.

The male version that caters to women being a very rare version indeed. The male to male version being much more common. Again males paying for s*x not women.

Simple supply and demand due to common but not universal differences between males and females view of s*x, love and relationships. What causes this difference? Is it learned , heredity, hormonal or other factors?

In any game people admire the team that beats the odds. Put the average Joe and the average Jane on the street and have them compete to see who can have the most free s*x in one day. The guy would celebrate to have one taker the girl could have more than she wants and money in her pocket from the grateful.

Just to let the ladies know I am not one of the name calling ones, but one of the grateful ones.

Adults should be free to live as they like if it hurts no one.

Historically a man has never been able to trust that a child his wife bears is actually his > hence there has always been more of a stigma about women cheating than men. It's not a new thing.

Personally I choose to surround myself with people that don't follow this mindset. I find these terms are mostly used by chavs these days.

No, in all honesty, I think a player is something different than a w***e. I know guys who are whores, I know some who are players (or around here, dawgs). Whores will put it in anything that moves; sorry to be vulgar but diction demands it. Dawgs are picky, they value the prize.

The girl version of a dawg, well, she's a gold-digger. Again, there's a prize involved. A w***e is, well, not selective about who, what or where.

As to where these assignments come from, who knows the origin? Some guys claim player when they're whores b/c they can't see a difference. Same with chicks.

i think that people just call girls wh*ores because when a girl has s*x with a lot of guys it seems kind of unlady like so they are called whor*es. I think that guys generally call girls whor*es and guys generally call themselves players.

When u call a guy a player it is a compliment to most. It means that u have enough talent to be able to get with a lot of girls. For some reason it is more socially accepted for a guy to be a player than it is for a girl to be a wh*ore

I grew up in Detroit,MI., and was exposed to the "game" first hand. According to the "pimps and players", the names and titles are derived from an individuals ability to convince whomever to "work" for them, not all pimps have people working only on the streets, some work regular jobs,some as call girls,etc.,whereas a "player" is a person that for whatever reason feels the need to "play" (manipulate)  individuals to get what ever it is that they are after. (also,not only men are pimps or players) women who do it are called madams.

The double standards are generally perpetuated by women to other women.  Women spend much more time and energy talking about each other's s*x, flirting, habits etc.  Men don't care as much.

Well as you know, it is somewhat tougher for a man to get s*x than a woman, how much is debatable.

As such, it is considered more of an accomplishment when a man is successful.

Yes they are equally disgusting. I ask why people where those ridiculous shirts that say "don't hate the player, hate the game". It is like giving someone the o.k. to behave like an idiot because it is all part of some elaborate game that is somehow o.k. Either is stupid. There is no skill in being a player. The only difference to me is that the player often has to pay to play. In other words, a player will have to do something, buy somethign, to get the playee's attention. This usually is some kind of generous act. A wh*ore could almost be looked at as the smarter one because all he or she had to do was lie down.

It's more of an accomplishment for a man to get s*x from a woman than it is for a woman to get s*x from a man. You know how easy men are, especially if we're single and we haven't done it in a long time. Most women don't think about how difficult it is to get s*x from a man, because it isn't that difficult at all. When a woman has s*x with a lot of different guys in a short period of time, she is abusing her ability to get men. Not to mention, no guy really wants to get involved with a woman who sleeps around a lot.  That's why there is a difference between a man being called a player and a woman being called a w***e.
