  1. Glucose is our most basic fuel - think of it as a one hundred dollar bill.  Hard to spend on all the little things we need, pack of gum, popsicle, etc.   So it is broken down, partly in the cytoplasm and partly inside the mitochondria - to produce ATP, the "small change" that is easy to spend.


  2. I think its because by hydrolysis you can bust it down to ADP, a process which releases a lot of energy and this is done by the mitochondria.  But I really dont know what Im talking about anyways so dont listen to me.

  3. ATP provides virtually all the energy needed by the body and is the only source of energy for the cell. The energy released from the breakdown of the ATP molecule is used to power all bodily functions, which is why ATP is considered the "energy currency" of the cell. Proper ATP levels must be maintained for normal cellular function. If ATP degenerates past the point of renewal, the energy needed by the cells is lost. Ribose, as a precursor to adenosine, can help reverse this condition
