I heard that it is because among their ancestors who were deported from Africa to the Carribeen, the survival rate was higher for those with that problem.

Any clue?

  7. This appears to be a genetic thing associated with one of the clades of MtDNA L2.  L2 (the predominate West African MtDNA) may be divided into L2a, L2b, L2c & L2d.  For some reason most African Americans are of L2 MtDNA, thus many are genetically predisposed to hypertension.  Several genetic sequences of European & even Japanese are also genetically predisposed to have high blood presure... however, we didn't get most Europeans from one location in Europe.

This is a complicated thing & several genes can predispose a person to develop high blood pressure... or Hypotension, a low blood pressure that causes a person to black out when standing up quickly.
