Why Americans are not doing anything about the government not following the constitution?

That was about 150 years ago.

They haven't tried since.

Maybe you should clarify specifically what you mean by 'not following the Constitution.'

Generally when somebody says that what they _really_ mean is: "The government is not acting in accordance with my political opinions."

Im curious to know what americans are supposed to do?  Protest?  Its being done.  Vote on new laws? Done.  Any other ideas?

because people are afraid. Afraid that, if they speak out, the IRS will be ordered to hassle them or such.

the government should be afraid of the people, not people afraid of thier own government.

I'm for evolution as I think revolution is beyond our ability.  Get people pissed off and get people registered for 2008 could be a giant leap in the right direction.

Where are all these gun rights people when it comes to the government wiretapping Americans? Or putting us in jail without charges?

We don't need an armed confrontation.  We just need to vote out the rats.  But Republicans like the erosion of our system of checks & balances just fine!

That is the congress and the judiciary's job.  I realize the Patriot Act is unconstitutional, but it is also law.  We have a problem: two laws (the constitution, and the Patriot Act) contradict each other.  The way to resolve this is by bringing it to the judiciary.  Not by revolting.

Many Americans don't even know that the government is not following the Constitution. Or if they do know, they don't care (for whatever reason).
