  1. Although I am not conservative, I believe that what can be called the Obama factor is the fear of the unknown. Similar to a person walking into a very dark alley. Conservatives (not all) can only speculate on what Obama will offer, do, or say. Just as they can only spread rumors about what they believe they know.

Most will say he's been very vague regarding his ideas or that he's the most liberal Senator - more than Ted or Hillary, even. A perfect example is Obama's race speech, conservatives first thought is liberal, although such a issue is the right and humanly thing to do (all parties aside). They can only judge him through another (Rev. Wright). And they can only speculate he is inexperienced- only 2 years into a 4 year term. However, he also has several years (I believe 8) in state politics and his experience as a lawyer. Obama also happens o be a good speaker, as proven today. If Hillary or McCain were placed in that scenario how would they have handled it?

All in all, to the coservatives Obama would be the worst of the candidates to face McCain. Hillary on the other hand, who carries a whole lot of baggage, would probably be a piece of cake for McCain. Not to mention McCain has attempted some bipartisonship and works with several Dems very well. His only major objection would be "will he be like Bush?" Unfortunately, after today, I feel Conservatives (not all) will have a lot to fear, as Obama is not going away easily

  2. People like to identify with and be socially reinforced by others. Having someone like Obama in office chucks all that out the window, at least on a macro scale. Objective self-reflection is difficult. It requires one to step back from the self and engage in a different level of thinking that isn't comfortable or "natural" (i.e., reactive). Much easier to run with fear. Plus, highly advantageous in this situation. One can identify with and be socially reinforced by others without expending the energy to examine their fear as a veil for something else, rational or not. So, many people being afraid achieves the same basic goal that was frustrated to begin with, just through different means.

  3. Perhaps because he's threatening to have some new ideas?  Although he hasn't said much about what they are, yet.   Maybe that makes people even more afraid - but it might be politically wiser than frightening the horses with the facts.   He might even propose that we have to change the way we live - and who benefits - to deal with Climate Change.  (After declaring it's real of course, and that would frighten about half the population, I think, as most have, or think they have, vested interests in more of the same).   And there's nothing so alarming to most people as having to think.  Most believe "When in doubt, avoid".

  4. He has been very vague regarding his ideas-except he likes taxes.

He is known to be the most liberal Senator - more than Ted or Hillary, even.

His minister of 20 years, friend who baptised his children is a racist.

He has the Surrender monkey on his back.

He is inexperienced- only 2 years into a 4 year term.

He is a good speaker, but better at avoiding answering the question.

If Hillary is recognized as a Socialist, what is HE?

  5. We're not afraid of him.  He's just a Politician.

Our concern is that a critical mass of voters will be naive, gullible and vain enough to get him elected.  If anything, it's our fellow Americans that we're worried about.  We look around, and all we see are stupid people.

...I'm not sure if you will understand that, but...
