Why Are The Flags On Airplanes Backwards?

  1. I think it goes back to boats.  On a boat, the country's flag will hang from the mast, and (if the boat is moving) blow towards the back of the boat.  So someone to the left of the boat will see the flag "normally" and someone to the right of the boat will see it "backwards".  So, they just painted it that way on airplanes.
