Why Arsenal shouldn’t have let Gael Clichy leave for Manchester City
French full-back and the only surviving member of the Arsenal’s invincible squad, Gael Clichy went on to walk out of the Emirates, as he head for Manchester City.
The defender has now managed to confirm his transfer to Manchester City and is now set to be a part of the Eastlands roster, for the coming season. The deal is being reported to be worth around seven million pounds and according to most, that seems to be
the best price that Arsenal could have received for the full back.
However, on close inspection, we can narrow down this transfer to potentially be the end of the Gunners as we know it.
For starters, Arsenal are now going to be without Clichy, who has been the integral part of the Arsenal back-line, who has been linking the defence and the attack for all these years, via his lighting pace. Clichy might have had some ups and downs over the
years, but the defender is/was easily the best left-back in the team. Clichy has pace, the ability to get forward and then return back in order to cover for his team on the counter.
Clichy had all the attributes that were required for an Arsenal player. He would pass the ball quite frequently, he would blast down the wings and whip in some brilliant crosses and most importantly, he hardly ever had any injury problems during his stay
with the team.
Now with Clichy out of the squad, the Gunners are going to turn to have to turn to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kieran-Gibbs-c20945 to cover for the team. Gibbs despite being hyped in the media, time and time again, isn’t even half the player that Clichy was.
Gibbs is a decent player, but his inexperience and constant injuries have proven to be a great stumbling block in his career and for the team. The defender has even managed to get injured in the opening 15 minutes of a game due to him not being able to tackle
a player properly and that in itself, tells us about the limitations of the player. A defender, who gets injured while making a simple block, is by no means capable of being any teams first choice. However, that isn’t all, Gibbs likes to get up quite often,
but just doesn’t have the same pace that Clichy possess and as a result, he is often caught out of position. His crossing still needs much work and his ability to read the game is nothing to envy.
Basically, in order for Arsenal to keep their backline stable, they are going to have to invest in a competent full-back and at the moment, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leighton-Baines-c21987 seems to be the best possible option.
However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 is not the only aspect of the team that is going to be affected by Clichy’s departure. A number of the team’s players have been linked with moves out of the club and now with them realizing that players are actually leaving the Emirates
instead of players coming in, they might just reassess their future at the club, which is more than likely set to end with them also wanting to leave.
The future doesn’t look all that bright for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 at the moment and the time for Arsene Wenger to really show his calibre is finally here. Should the manager fail, then it is safe to say that dark days lie ahead for the Gunners.
