Why Australian sporting jerseys are yellow and not blue?

  3. The yellow is part of our national colours - green and gold. These two colours were proclaimed as our national sporting colours in 1984 by our then Governor-General, Sir Ninian Stephen. They are believed to have come from the wattle, which has golden-yellow flowers.

    Assuming you'd think we'd use blue because it's the predominant colour of our flag, I think the reason we don't is because there are so many other countries that share our flag's colours - The USA, UK, France, the Netherlands, Croatia just to name a few. You'll notice that we sometimes use blue in our away colours and some sporting uniforms - sometimes our Olympic athletes' uniforms are blue, and the Socceroos wear blue as their away colours.
