Question:

Why Big Brown lost the Belmont Stakes?

Big Brown was taking Lasix, a legal anti-bleeding medication that can cause a horse to become dehydrated. Highs were in the 90s and there was oppressive humidity Saturday. Several horses throughout the day were sweating excessively and needed to be cooled off with buckets of water and sprayed with hoses after they ran.

The above is more than likely the answer as to why Big Brown could not win the Belmont Stakes. Too bad the owner/trainer couldn't figure this out.

  1. NO STERIODS IN THE RACE=LOSS

  2. i agree with that..the belmont is just too long of a race 3 weeks after 2 big races..i think he will race again and dutrow will have him ready for the breeders cup against curlin

  3. You are probably right about the Lasix and heat, although no one will ever really know.  Maybe his hoof was bothering him, maybe not. Maybe he got annoyed with Kent Desormeaux when he yanked his head to try to move him a little bit away from the rail.  Some people thought he got spooked by some equipment that was near his starting gate as soon as he came out.  Maybe he was just tired from runninng 3 races in such a short period especially given the fact that he was relatively inexperienced.  Anything can happen at a horse race.  I'm just glad that all the horses came out of the race healthy.

  4. The cracked hoof could of bothered him some and the jockey couldn't get him to run his hardest... or he might have just had and off day. It happens.
