Why Bulgaria is part of EU and not Turkey????

Half of Istanbul belongs to Europe, and it is one of the highest visited Tourist areas and the West Coast of Turkey. Turkey should definitely be in the EU. They had the chance once, but then they got all proud and refused the offer after being rejected to be included in the EU to begin with.

Why Bulgaria is so tolerant toward Turks? Why allows you to study, build mosques, shout uncivilized on Turkish on the streets, cause frustration to one of the old Christian Orthodox nations? Why there is an ethnically party, a Turkish one in the Parliament, despite what says the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria. Where on the earth Turks, living in Turkey are allowed to vote at any Bulgarian elections even out of the Republic? Who are you to post that question?

Bulgaria is in Europe, have the historical, political and moral place in the European Union and is accepted as succeeded to prove all the criteria. Yes, it deserves .

Only 3% of the Turkish landmass is in the continental Europe, half of Istanbul and just west of it.

I will refrain from any comments as they should be far more sharp in tone...

ADDED: To the first poster: Bulgarians are NOT Muslims at all! Only the Bulgarians of Turkish decsents and little gypsies follow Islam.

The EU has a set of criteria regarding government financial practices and regulations (many of which relate to transparency), government subsidies for business (which the EU frowns on), currency adoption, human rights practices, press freedom, etc.  If a country wants to be a member of the EU and can meet all of the many requirements, it gets in.

Turkey has not yet met the requirements to join the EU, particularly regarding financial reform, human rights and press freedom.

Turkey signed a Customs Union agreement with the EU in 1995 and was officially recognised as a candidate for full membership on December 12th, 1999, at the Helsinki summit of the European Council. Negotiations were started on October 3rd, 2005, and the process is likely to take at least a decade to complete.
