I injured my back at work over a week ago and the pain has got progressively worse. Because the pain killers were not working I have had to leave work and I am feeling very sorry for myself and simply cannot get any relief no matter what I do. I had to have a CT scan. Why and what is the difference between CT and xray? I didnt have the injection before hand, which is what someone had asked when I told them of my test. What sort of things could this show up?

  1. A CT scan doesn't necessarily mean it shows more than an x-ray but it gives doctor's a closer look.  Because with an x-ray you see only bone structure with the CT you can see tendons, ligaments, and I think even muscle tears.

    so i hope that helps

    get better

  2. ~ Hi ~ I'm so sorry about your recent back injury and the pain you're experiencing. A CT Scan will actually show a lot more than X-Ray show. An X-Ray will only show what's going on with spine (like if a Disc is collapsed, are breaks in bones), but it gives no information on soft tissue.

The CT Scan will show: what's occurring with the soft tissue in addition to any bone issues - so basically it provides a clearer picture.

Here is a link on CT Scan:

I hope this helps and you get answers and relief from the pain soon.
