Why Can't I Extract Files That Come From A Mac Computer?

When a friend of mine downloads .zip files and tries to extract them, it has a folder called _MACOSX and .DSSTORE. Then they'll hit 'extract and a little window will pop up saying 'There's another file type with that name' and below it says 'Try again', 'skip', or 'cancel'. And when they'll open the folder, nothing will be there. Help?

A lot of times windows files won't work on a mac, and vice versa
