Why Care About It?

My brother recently said he does not care what happens in the future due to global warming, or any other enviormental problems, because it doesn't effect him. What is your opinion on this?

Personally, I care, because I want my kids and grandchildren to have good lifes, and I think that we are custodians of this world and we should take care of it before we pass it down as a mess to our grandchildren and children.

  1. OMG!

    My brother to!

Ok, we were on the couch and i am just like our family has to get solar pannels and recycle more and conserive the earth.

Because in 50 years NYC can be under water if we keep it up at this rate and also or grandchirlden can be dead!

I am cmon! and he is just like well we don't have to worry about it!

and i just thought that was so self centered!

but i love him but its just people have to be more aware.

  2. Tell your brother you love him anyway, it's a 'pick your friends not your family' kind of thing.

Back in the '50's people went crazy worrying about a nuclear holocaust, even to the point of constructing bomb shelters in their homes.  This threat didn't materialize -- we came too close with the Cuban missile crisis -- but this threat is real and will impact all of our lives.  Health.  Agriculture.  Biological Diversity.  Insurance.   In other words, all across the board, the board being this once-and-still lovely planet we live on.

I started doing research on global climate change after my grandson was born and I realized that this was going to seriously impact his future unless something was done.  I feel much better for having done the research, and I'm still building on the foundation of knowledge I accrued in poking around the Internet, reading the newspaper and magazines, and checking out a few books from the library.

I will share a few sites with you.  Feel free to share them with your brother.  Just ask him to look at them with an open mind, because you love him.

With me, it's my sister.  I want to revisit the subject with her since I've become more fluent in discussing it!

  3. People that say things like your brother makes me incredibly sad - I do not understand how people can be so apathetic towards our planet. Humans have damaged the planet in so many irreparable ways (extinctions, deforestation, development, carbon emissions) and our species did it in the blink of an eye (on a geological time scale). Due to ignorance, laziness, or straight-up maliciousness, people who are out of touch with nature and the global environment cause more harm than good.

People who are able to see the harm, understand the causes, and actually care enough to WANT to do something about it are ....enlightened. These people are IN touch with nature - a rare thing these days. I believe that consciously making choices to lower your negative impact on the planet (consuming and using less, advocating environmental awareness, etc.) makes you a better person in lots of different ways.

However you look at it - religiously, morally, spiritually, scientifically - the myriad reasons for caring for our planet are abundant.

  4. I care. I think that was a selfish thing to say. We should all care. God made this earth for us so we should take good care of it! Not destroy the earth and the life on it.

  5. Its our moral obligation to look after what God has given us. I believe we will be judged accordingly.

Because we rank on the top of the food chain and we have this wonderful brain that allows us to think abstractly and expeirence emotion.... we are fully responsible for our actions and their consequences.

The Earth isnt just ours... it belongs to every living thing!

Its all based around morality for me. Not so much about future generations (althought that certainly is a HUGE incentive)

I think your brother is typical......a typical moron. There seem to be so many of those.

    Unfortunate.

    When will we ever learn?

  6. Human in d past had caused the environmental problems today INDIRECTLY in the name of providing a better life for us today.

We should at least feel responsible n try to reduce these problems rather than increasing them. Caring for the nature as well as helping in d smallest way is a good thing to do.

I too care abt d nature n I try to help in my own way (recycling, low energy usage, not buying endangered animal/plant products n etc) n this is nothing compared to so many other people out there who really are the true Nature Guardians!!

We just do our part for the Earth n hopefully many others would realize it n join us too.

    Good day :)

  7. because this is our world to take care of if we destroy this planet where we live you got to conserve and not using a lot of carbon dioxide. if it does not destroys earth you still got to be friendly to the environment so every one can enjoy a nice fresh breath. im also  trying to conserve water. www.goblue.net

  8. yeah! global warming is SO important. ur brother is weird for sayin that.

  9. i agree with you

  10. The future has this habit of turning into the present all too quickly sometimes.

  11. I agree with you...your brother sounds like a typical selfish human...he is just the type that all the rest of us environmentalists will end up cleaning up after.
