Why Cesc Fabregas should not be the captain next season – Part 3
Article continued from Part 2.

Due to the fact that he is the captain of this prestigious club, he has set out to prove himself a captain by putting his body under a lot of stress, charging down balls and running around on the pitch, often playing with injuries and knocks. It must not be
forgotten that he scored that vital penalty against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the Emirates last season and that also with a cracked tibia. He then went on to play until the last whistle because Arsenal was out of substitutes.

Arsene Wenger needs to change the Arsenal captain so that pressure is relieved on the Spaniard and he is able to play the game even more efficiently.
Failure to inspire the team:

The Spaniard is a natural winner and with his hate of losing, he tries to the best of his capabilities to steer Arsenal to victories.

Although he has performed impeccably in the last two seasons, he is the type of player who tries to inspire his team through his performance and his efficient and determined work rate. But he is not the vocal kind and has found it unable to bring out that leadership
qualities that can literally drag his players forward; something that Vidic has been doing all season. Arsenal needs a vocal and a loud leader who can push the team forward with both his performances and his words.

The lack of inspiration is evident when he is not playing or when he is having a bad day on the pitch and is not able to perform well. He has been struggling to defensively inspire his team to hold onto crucial leads, with Arsenal giving away a four goal lead
against Newcastle and a critical two goal lead against Tottenham on two occasions this season. When Arsenal is faced with pressure, Fabregas fails to pull his team through.

The last two captains of Arsenal, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrick-Vieira-c29316 were both extremely vocal and were able to inspire their teams and inculcate the resilience and the fighting spirit that was needed in crunch matches.
Unable to cope with the pressure:

No one doubts his quality or his supreme talent but the Spanish World Cup winner has been stressed by the role as the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 captain.

He is desperate to lead Arsenal to a trophy, their first since five years, but has failed again this year, making it six years in a row. But in his desperation, he has tried to play past his full potential often playing with injuries and this has a negative
impact on his body and has worn him down faster.

This was evident in the match against Barcelona when he played without full fitness and was responsible for Barcelona’s goal and has since admitted his mistake but the last thing on the mind of a captain should be to play with injuries.
Despite many criticisms against the Spanish star, Fabregas has always given 100 percent for Arsenal and has pushed himself past his limits in an act of desperation to be able to lift a trophy in the Arsenal colours. Regardless, Arsenal needs a new captain
and with the time Van Persie spends on the treatment table, I see it fitting for Vermaelen to be named the captain for the 2011-12 season.
