  1. Because you can catch them anywhere, meaning it does not cost you a single cent and even if you buy, it is not expensive.

However you need to find out more about the Chineses before asking the same question because Thais are better insect eaters than Chineses.

  2. because it tastes just like chicken!

    LOL....lighten up people, it's a joke!!

  3. why do u eat chicken or a cow?

  4. its their own taste as how we take chicken and mutton

  5. not all chinese people do that, and it is rude for you to stereotype, but other ethnic traditions are sacred to them, for example americans get fat on fast food like mcdonalds, i'm sure that they wonder why we do that!

  6. first of all, the way you asked the question makes it seem like you think its disgusting and nasty.do you think that's disgusting and nasty? maybe you do but realize that it is a delicacy in their culture. You're thinking "How can they eat that?". Well, look into your own culture and cuisine. There are probably some foods other people from other cultures find disgusting. It's all perspective buddy. For instance, here in America, some folks like to put peanut butter on celery sticks. I personally love it, but if I eat that in another cultural environment, people may be disgusted. Also, people here like to put bananas and strawberries on ice cream. I definitely don't prefer that on my ice cream. I prefer pistacchios.  What's key here? Perspective.

  7. It's considered a delicacy in their country

  8. There are 'weird' food in every culture without exception, even in Western countries. One man's meat is indeed another man's poison. Many others will be disgusted at foods like French escargots, American Rocky Mountain 'oysters' (cattle testicles) and English black pudding. If you're talking about insects, there are also candy & lollipops made by US companies that contain real scorpions, worms & crickets.

There are also plenty of other countries who eat insects, regarded as nutritious & full of protein, like Thailand, Japan, South America, Africa etc. Even Americans are becoming more accepting, with over ten insect festivals each year like the Bug Bowl at Purdue University and restaurants like Typhoon, in Santa Monica, that serves insect delicacies.

For those really squeamish about insects, you may have unknowingly consumed some form of insects eg. apple cider can be made with bug-infested apples, cochineal insects are used to give the red/pink coloring to some foods, lipsticks & beverages, chocolate & peanut butter could have insect fragments and tomato sauce can have fly eggs. What about that bag of delicious, crunchy snacks that you enjoyed on holiday overseas, without understanding a word printed on the packaging ? :)

For the Chinese, there are hundreds of other things that are eaten in far greater amounts than insects, which form a very small proportion of the overall food culture and it is also not consumed uniformly among all the Chinese regions. Compared to actually crunching down those critters, a far more common usage is in the form of preservation in tonic wines or in dried forms used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

  9. Well before you say something is"wierd" ... You first must realize that what is wierd to y-o-u can be very common and normal to other cultures.

As ADULTS we celebrate diversity and recognize that there are many cultures in this world.

People might have different rituals and food preferences But that doesn't make it "Wierd"... maybe one day you will realize that!

    GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

  10. That's their culture.

  11. it's not only chinese people that do that, in mexico they eat the worm in mescal, grass hoppers, in africa they eat earth worms, also in south america. it's just their culture and different tastes
