Why Detroit Red Wings will win the Stanley Cup –NHL Special
Detroit Red Wings are one of those teams that no matter what, they will be playing in the playoffs. This time around, things are not looking up due to a number of injuries but Red Wings are still a Stanley Cup playoff team and here is why I think they will
be able to win this time around.
The great thing about the current Detroit team is that they have had the chance to grow together unlike any other. Red Wings mostly consist of the same players for the past three National Hockey League (NHL) regular seasons and with that much time together,
you just develop unmatched chemistry.
Nashville Predators might have won the first matchup between the two clubs in the opening game of the 2012 NHL playoffs quarterfinals but Detroit is definitely not a team that will be giving up easily anytime soon. Instead, Red Wings are planning on using
this as an opportunity to change some things for next time.
Detroit’s forwards are top class and ranked as some of the best worldwide. When you have players like Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk along with some amazing veteran defenseman like Nicklas Lidstrom and Jiri Hudler, the team is bound towards greatness.
Jimmy Howard is another reason for Detroit bound to win the Stanley Cup because the goalie is in him prime with a 2.13 goals against average and superb .920 save percentage. Not only is having a great goalie extremely crucial in any playoff series but when
you have an equally talented defensive and offensive line-up, it is safe to say that greatness will come knocking on the door by itself.
Luckily, Detroit was able to get Danny Cleary from an injury in the nick of time but what still puts them at a disadvantage is not having Darren Helm up and ready to go. Helm still has no set date to make a debut but Red Wings are hoping that it will be
sooner than later.
It is not hard to see that Detroit has not been the best on the road team in years but they are definitely one of the, if not the best team when it comes to playing at home. The 2011-2012 NHL regular season was a witness to the fact that Detroit outplayed
all teams when it came to home games and it just gets better from there.
Unfortunately, Detroit does not have the home-ice advantage against the Nashville Predators in this opening playoff series, meaning that they will have to work extra hard towards reaching that goal.
Nashville is a team with some of the best special teams especially when it comes to their defensive line-up consisting of Shea Weber and Ryan Suter. Red Wings will have to dominate both of these players since they alone, carry Predators all the way.
With the special teams in mind, Detroit has to stay out of the penalty box for as long as possible and go in only when deemed crucial to survival. Giving penalties and a power play advantage to the opposition will only get them killed on the ice since Nashville
just loves the adventure of capitalising on chances to score with an extra skater on board.
Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators will be going head-to-head for the second game of the Western Conference quarterfinals on Friday, April 13.
