At school, I refered to the black race as Nigro's. I offended a person that holds Dr. King in high reguard. When i brought up that King always used the term Nigro...I was shunned. What is the correct term when addressing the black race...Really.

  1. How else would you call them? ***** is the proper name. Like saying caucasion.

****** in the other hand is offensive, but ***** or afro-american is correct.

  2. No, he used the term ******

  3. "*****" was the commonly accepted term at the time.

    "Black" is the current standard.

What those people should have done was point this out, not acted like children.

  4. At his time Dr.Martin Luther King used that term because it was acceptable and probebly the only term he could use. It's not as accepted now and it really depends what country you live in what would be the correct term. African American or black is most commonly used.

  5. Today you had better call them blacks. It used to be colored but this is now passé. Ne*ro is simply the Spanish word for black.

  6. These days most prefer to be addressed as "African Americans":  although some have no roots in Africa, some like "people of color", the term "Neg*ro"was acceptable during Dr Kings lifetime, before that it was "colored" people or blacks, I can't wait for the day when we all are called simply "people".

  7. *****, was and still is a short term name for ****** and that is y it stings and still hurts to many of african amreicans. ther is alot of pain behind "nigro" with slavery and the abuse with are an sisters please jus say afican american or black people. the term african americans was not around during dr. kings generation thats why he used it. i hope this inlighten you a little.

  8. im pretty sure that nigro or however u spell it is the only politicly correct term

  9. For many years African American people were known as the ***** Race. Dr.King, being a southern man, said "Nigro", which is the same as *****. Not anywhere close to the "N" word.

As for the second par5t of your question, many descendants of slaves prefer to be called African Americans because it connects them to a place and people that are free and have the same responsibilities that free people have.
