  1. Bro is incorrect.

John F. Kennedy wanted to thwart the spread of Communism. He sent in advisors and then LBJ took the ball and ran with it!

  2. One story I have heard is that there was oil found in the South China Sea. I don't know if it is true or not.

  3. The simplest answer is, to stop the spread of Communism.

However conspiracy freaks, will give hundreds or other reasons ranging from idiotic to completely insane.

  4. We were in Vietnam, long before the M-16 was even developed.

We first went into Vietnam, during WW ll to help Ho Chi Mien against the Japanese.

Then we went back in 1956 to help the French withdraw.

And never really left after that.

  5. Tell your brother that he is wrong.

We first went to Vietnam to help them fight the Japanese during WW2.

During Korean War, whle we were in Korea, the French were fighting Communism in Vietnam.  Once again, we went in to initially help the French (just like in WW1 and WW2), and ended up fighting without them (sounds familiar, doesn't it?).

  6. Another meglomaniac from Texas called "LBJ." The biggest fool of them all.

  7. Containment, mostly.

  8. And did he tell you we went to the moon to put the Wisconsin cheese plants out of business. Read the facts about Vietnam.

  9. Lol your brother is stupid.

  10. No short answer to that one -- it had to do with the Cold War, trying to stop Communism, existing treaties, "the domino theory," etc. -- but the M16 wasn't part of it.
