Why Do Italian Surnames End In Vowels?

It's interesting. I'm yet to find an Italian surname that doesn't end in A E I O U.

  2. Well that's actually true, the greatest part of italian surnames end in vowels...the fact is, every italian word ends in vowel!

    That's a feature of italian language, and it's kind of weird because latin had many words ending in consonants.

    Anyway, there are regions in Italy where surnames end in consonant: in Sardinia, for example, surnames end in "S" and in Friuli they typically end in "N" (my grandmother was from Friuli and her surname was "Gambin").
