Question:

Why Do Most UFC Fans Diss Bruce Lee?

I find it kind of odd that some UFC fans talk c**p about Bruce Lee. They say this UFC fighter & that UFC fighter could take Bruce Lee. They say he was an actor not a fighter. If you watch his training and practice footage you can see he works hard! Didn't he invent mixed martial arts? Wouldn't there be no UFC without him?

  1. i didn't know most ufc fans dissed him

  2. don't get it wrong but UFC fans love bruce lee.

it's UFC fighters who diss bruce lee.

because they actually do the fight

  3. Mixed martial arts is not new. South America had it long before lee but no one cared. Also he talked a lot of **** which is not a great characteristic. I think he was full of him self and I think he at least at one point had an eating disorder... Yea he was tuff but don't toot your own horn like that. Also he spoke of things like claws to the eye or groin  shots

  4. Its not that we diss him but alot of people out there think that Bruce was some unstoppable force based on his movies and training vids.  Bruce was an outstanding martial artist and his system(Jeet Kune Do) was one of the first styles to incorporate techniques from many different systems, but there were other styles that did the same such as sambo.  Its not that people are putting him down for what he did but rather putting others down for holding him in such high esteem

  5. Most UFC fans don't do martial arts and don't have respect for others. Also whenever new fighters come along many people like to make hypathetical matchups. Bruce Lee was a very serious martial artist. Bruce Lee did believe in mixing martial arts but he was not the creator of MMA. The earliest MMA was pankration 2500 years ago. I think UFC wouldn't be here if the Gracies didn't do jiu jitsu.

  6. I'd like to think that most UFC fans (the enlightened and knowledgeable ones anyway) respect Bruce Lee, his ideas and his teachings.

I'd like to think it's the novice fans, the ones who barely know the sport, that would be disrespectful.  These are the same people who complain when a fight goes to the ground, or if a fighter wins by submission because they want to see two guys stand up and trade head-punches until one guy goes down...because "that's exciting!"

So the smart fans respect Bruce Lee.

  7. I dont diss him and i'm a fan of the UFC, but honestly.. any UFC fighter could take out Bruce Lee. He is an actor, but unlike Jackie Chan and Jet Li and all those people, he really was a true martial artist. Show me one fight that Bruce Lee had that wasn't part of a movie, there isn't one. He does not have the cage fighting experience most UFC fighters have. I still respect him very much though :)

  8. I've watched the UFC and Pride since the first shows and if it wasn't for Bruce Lee I probably would not have been as interested.

  9. No he didnt invent MMA really. He invented his own style of street fighting called "Jeet Kune Do" using various interpretations of moves.

  10. I think fans always root for the athletes in their own generation because they know them versus a past legend that they never had teh chance to see for themselves.

  11. Ok...who is most? Whom ever disses Bruce apparently is not a fan or respectful of martial arts. MMA stems from all forms of formal martial arts. So to those who diss Bruce....they have no idea of what they are doing. Bruce is one of the reasons why martial arts are so mainstream.

  12. Ignorants and jealousy!

  13. they don't. most of them on here do. I have cross. yes the ufc would be here with out him. the samuri were mixed martial artist as well. they were very good with ju jitsu and they trained to kill standing up with or with out weapons

  14. Different times, Bruce Lee was a great martial artist - but became an actor.  Same as Lou Ferrigno became an actor and stopped competing in bodybuilding - still was a great bodybuilder, therefore, he didn't ever win the Olympian.  Times have changed and with either of them competing as they were in their prime, they probably wouldn't stand much of a chance against today's fighters or bodybuilders.  Same as the athletes in any sports - watch records being shattered this summer in the Olympics - athletics evolve - same as Royce Gracie initially won the UFC and was a driving force of the popularity of BJJ and the UFC - but when he went back against mma stylist, the competition had evolved and though he could still compete he was either too old or had lost his edge and couldn't win in a sport he dominated 15 years ago.

  15. There will always be some people somewhere who will diss Bruce Lee mainly out of ignorance and thinking wrongly that modern training, fighters by default are better 35yrs on.

This is not necessary the case it depends how well people are committed to training and improving, Bruce Lee maybe old hat to some people and its easy to diss someone who's dead and cant defend themselves but no one and I mean no one I know of trained harder and was more committed to improving themselves than Bruce Lee.

Just my opinion and still a Bruce Lee fan after all these years.

    Best wishes :)***

  16. MMA is tough and JKD fans would not do well in that sport unless they trained for it, especially nowadays.  Bruce Lee, is an icon of martial arts, but he was only a man.  He has been deified to too long.

  17. Yes, MMA did originate from Bruce Lee. MMA fighters are just too egotistical to acknowledge it. Or they have been kicked in the head too many times.
