Question:

Why Do My Ears Start Hurting When I Run While It's Cold Outside?

I ran a mile today, and it was about 59 degrees outside, and when I was finished, I had a really bad ear ache. That's not the first time this has happened, but it only happens when it's cold outside. Why?

  1. Is this a serious question. You know when I run outside and its warm I get warm.

  2. Well basically its because youre ears are cold.

Just like the rest of youre body youre ears get cold. try wearing earmuffs or a hat

  3. Pressure and Temperature are inversely related (we are doing this in school right now) so maybe the decrease in temp makes the pressure increase in your ears and they hurt.

  4. lots of blood flows through your ears. cold causes construction of blood vessels (everywhere, not just your ears) and this constriction reduces blood flow and thus oxygen flow into the delicate and sensitive ears. restricted oxygen = headache. also the tensor tympani, which are the muscles which hold the ear drum taught, are subject to the cold just like any other muscle.

    try wearing a beany

  5. you answered your own question- it was cold outside- wear a hat or a head band.

  6. I get the same. It's the cold and your sinuses. I always wear a beanie now in the mornings or ear warmers.

  7. I agree with the first answer. Your head is one of the places on your body in which heat leaves your body the fastest.

  8. Because all the blood is rushing into to your ears which expand the blood vesels which causes your ears to get extremaly warm

  9. Because you need more blood in your muscles and that make your ears colder.
