  1. Clothes get a musty smell from being wet. They can be "wet" if- you work out in a T shirt, then throw the sweaty shirt into the hamper and let it sit there, or a damp towel from the shower sits on top of a shirt in the hamper, making the shirt damp, etc.  Try and get the musty smell out of them when you wash.  Oxi-Clean works well, and so does 20 Mule Team Borax.  Both can be found in the grocery store in the laundry section.  Add the Oxi clean or Borax to the wash water, along with your detergent.  Try using Tide detergent, it's the best.  Then, dry the shirts well.  use the dryer and a fabric softener sheet, or dry them hanging on hangers.  Hope this is helpful

  2. Add a cup of vinegar to the load and run the rinse mode

  3. maybe the washer is leaving the clothes too damp and when you put them in the dryer the smell stays. either that or maybe u leave the clothes in the washer for a long time and after a while the humidity stinks the clothes and once you dry them the smell penetrates even further.

  4. lol...are your washer and dryer in the basement..theres your answer

  5. Is it possible that they are being put away without fully being dried? I know that when I hang clothes out on the line and for one reason or another I have to bring them in before they're dried (if it's going to rain), they will have an odor from just being folded while slightly damp and sitting in the basket overnight until I can rehang them (but I usually end up having to rewash them because of the odor). Other possibilities; is your dryer completely drying them? Or maybe they are being over dried...thus the burnt smell? Or, is it possible that they aren't dry before the dryer shuts off and then they sit damp in the dryer for a several hours and eventually dry on their own? Clothes drying in a clump (without air) will cause an odor too. Otherwise, try using a liquid fabric softener during the wash cycle. If that's not convenient, try a good quality fabric dryer sheet, such as Downy.

    Good luck to you.

  6. There is something stuck in the lint trap or around the outside of the drum that is cooking and transferring the smell to your shirts. As long as you don't do anything else then you can remove the screws from the back of the dryer to remove the cover and take the burning sock (or whatever) out of the space between the drum and the cover.

  7. If you try using some of the suggestions already listed and this still doesnt solve the issue.  ( also try wiping out your dryer with a soapy sponge..to get rid of prior smells)

This is such a great site.  The people are so helpful.  Not just a bunch of kids guessing, like some repair sites.

A lot of them are retired professionals..just looking to help people out in their spare time, with what knowledge theyve accumulated.

Theyve saved me thousands of $ over the years.

  8. Hmm, its possible if your washer and dryer are in the basement.

Try putting dryer sheet in the dryer along with your clothes, they make everything smell fresh.

    Or

You could buy the febreeze and spray it on your clothes, that always works, it's what i would use on my baseball pants if we played 2 days in a row and i dind't wanna smell bad.
