  1. idk i know when i hear people talking c**p i ask if they want a grappling match. They say yes i tap em out and they look stupid. They say no they look like a wimp.

  2. I don't hate Martial Arts. It is his sister Jennifer Arts I hate.

  3. It's not martial arts they hate...it's the mullets that drive people nuts.

  4. Ignorance I'd suggest and too many over the top ma films :)***

  5. I did it in Korea when I was young so I do not hate it.

  6. I never knew that they did.  Maybe you just need bettter friends.

  7. don't know anyone that hates it, I know soo many people who love it, so, don't know what your talking about.

  8. I think that the "politics" between schools and arts make it seem that people hate the martial arts in general, but the truth is that the politics, management and money side of the martial arts business has to be as it is.  Plenty of instructors out there believe firmly in what they are doing and I wouldn't even say that a small percentage of instructors don't beieve firmly in what they're doing.  When a man sets up a martial arts business in a neighbothood some where and understands what he is doing in every aspect of his business then another guy moves in down the road and sets up another martial arts business then the two are going to be "rivals" and there's nothing that can be done about that.  It's the spirit of "drive and determination" that would make these two men, both, good at what they do whether they personally like each others arts or not and maybe they're even bitter enemies for all we know, but they both still succeed none the less.  So people thinking that there should be some magical samurai type honor between these two men causes most of the problem with public in general.  These two business owners are only men that offer instruction in self-defense and they're not "buddhist monks" like the public perceives they should be.  Does this mean that honor, integrity, community and moral values go out the window? no it doesn't.  People can spew all the anti-martial arts hatred they want to and some will.  I've heard plenty say that the martial arts is all about money and nothing else. Well the money from all student tuitions goes to pay of things like the school's rent, electric bill, taxes, water and sanitation, phone bill, training equipment, floor mats, etc. etc. etc. but by no means is an instructor out for purely money because the truth be told he isn't really even making that much as far as profit goes any way.  Most instructors are purely volunteering their time to the communities in which they teach their art forms.  Of course there are schools out there that are more successful than others, but I'm looking at this from a small school's stand point.  These are the things that helps breed what hatred there is out there for the martial arts, but these things are also crucial for a school's survival and are in the spirit of "drive and determination" which is one of the martial arts most valued virtues.

P.S. SiFu Frank you're right as well "decent things in life are a comedy" to the vain, shallow, self-centered and non productive as well.  Things that are worth fighting for are never fought for by young, less than knowledgeable, lemming, paris hilton types are they Frank?  you are one funny guy though....everyone needs comic relief that's where you come in at .... rock on buuuuuddy.

  9. I don't know people who 'hate' martial arts, but I think they're wearing of people who take them.  When a person has to tell everyone about their martial arts, they're showing off and saying, "I could beat you up any time I wanted."  THAT doesn't reflect the respect and even-temperedness that MA should be teaching people.

  10. people who dont take martial arts are skeptical about it...(fearful, intimidated, think its hogwash, etc)

thats the thesis statement i think i derrive from there...

i used to be the same way...

Also, as a martial artist, talking about it as little as possible or only when asked is a good thing too...because people are only going to try to test you if you constantly talk about what you can do and what you know...

I guess the question needs to be a little more specific but i kinda understand where your coming from...

  11. In general people fear what they don't understand. Fear leads to hate and as Master Yoda says "and hate leads to the dark side". Enlighten them as best as you can by being a shining example of one who walks in the "warrior path". Perhaps they will begin to understand and be more in favor of what good things the martial artist can bring to the community.  Courtesy, integrity, self control, indomitable spirit, charity, compassion, sense of loyalty, are among the many benefits to the community. Not even mentioning the personal benefits.

  12. i  don't know very many people that hate it, some people don't understand it and thus don't find it "useful" for themselves. However, i have found from the people i choose to tell (friends and family) usually have an odd respect for me afterwards.

  13. That people hate martial arts; that it teaches respect; that it teaches discipline; that you love it; that you believe it to be fun:  These are simply and only your perceptions.  *They are not truths, nor can they ever be proven to be.*

Perhaps this is exactly this reason why people dislike martial arts.  Not to mention a lot of senseis and masters self-promote themselves, charge astronomical prices, and fill young and impressionable heads with (often harsh) propaganda...they are often power-freaks, fascists, and seriously paranoid people.

  14. I dont think that people "hate" Martial Arts, I think that they do not understand it, and therefore are a bit afraid of it.   One of the first reactions due to fear is anger.

The best way to deal with this is to show them that MA is not a mythical religion that teaches people to kill others for fun.  Tell them that it teaches respect, honor, confidence, self worth, self discipline, and self defense, among many other things.

  15. Most people dont understand it, or the various differences throught marrtial arts. Most people become stereo-typical about it over time, as they dont know differences. Then they hate the people that do practice martial arts who flaunt it around, or act  tough, when they dont really know how yo do it. OR at some point in life, they ran into someone who knew a martial art, and they got their butt kicked, and now hold a personal vendetta.

Call me somewhat intos star wars here, but people often fear things that they dont understand, and this can lead to a "hatred" of sorts, if you want to  use that strong of a word.
