Question:

Why Do People Hate Traffic Wardens?

OK, before anyone asks, I'm not a traffic warden. Everyone I know hates them, but if there were none, and people couldn't drive anywhere because of all the illegally parked cars, they would be complaining that they need traffic wardens to clear the parked cars, so why do people hate them when they help us to get to our destination?

  1. They do because they don't want to pay for parking.  They realize the need for traffic wardens but they believe different rules apply to them.  See, I should be able to leave my car in front of a store without paying because I only popped in there for a couple of minutes.  I should be able to park for 2 hrs. in a 1 hr. zone because I couldn't find a 2 hr. spot, that kind of thing.  When they get caught, they get pissed off.

However.. some traffic wardens are not really nice either.  There's a new show on TV called Parking Wars and one of the traffic wardens was waiting behind a corner, hiding, waiting for it to be 4 pm because she was headed out to a block where there was no parking during rush hour from 4 to 6.  Another was hiding in a park, sitting on a bench behind some trees watching a corner where people tend to park so she could jump out and give them a ticket as soon as they left their car.  In both cases, if the first one had been walking around on the rush hour block instead of waiting behind a corner, it might have given the ppl who had those cars and were nearby a chance to move them before getting a ticket.  Same with the one in the park, people would not have parked there if she was visible so I don't know, do they get a percentage of how many tickets they write out or what?  Or maybe people hating them just makes them meaner.

  2. I dislike them because I parked in a 2 hour limit timed parking meter spot.  (This was the only option available.)   My family took a 2 hour tour, via boat and the Van was parked for 2 hours and 25 minutes.  25 minutes over the limit and I would have gladly paid for a 3 hour parking spot to enjoy my 2 hour boat tour, but that was not an option.  So, I was charged by the city for that extra 25 minutes, because the cities meter didn't provide enough time.   I am only living in this City for 3 years, and will NEVER park or go downtown again....The city lost my "tourist" money, for insufficient timed parking meters.

Why provide 2 hour tours and only 2 hour meters, unless you want to s***w the people paying $$ to keep the economy going!

  3. Maybe because they issue tickets?
