Question:

Why Do People Overdress for a Funeral BUT NOT for Work?

I don't get it. Most people dress up for a funeral conservatively, and in heels, glasses, or hats, and the person for God's sakes is dead, not admiring your trendy Missoni dress or Krizia Kid gloves.

And in work, you see people wearing ripped jeans with paint on them. I witnessed a medical worker in an upper class doctor's office wearing this! And they wear jeans, sweats, and clothes you shouldn't wear to work.

Your thoughts? Isn't this true?

  1. you wouldn't want to go to work in your top and tails, I would be rather annoyed if I accidental got paint on them.  I am quite comfortable going to funeral in shorts and shirt, i would look neat  to respect the occasion

what will you wear at your mums funeral?

  2. For funerals people just like to look nice, it's like going to church, you wanna look respectful, plus you see people you havent seen inforever.. maybe people wanna give good impressions too... with work... I think people try to look good at first, but you are there everyday and so you start dressing for you mood or convieniance... some days you look real good other days are just blah.

  3. These two things really don't have anything to do with each other. I agree that a nurse should not be wearing clothes like that, but that really has nothing to do with how people dress at other events.

  4. It's all about respect at funerals. OK, the deceased can't see you but their family can.

Respect is sadly lacking in the USA.

As for the medical worker, the doctor should set some standards for his office. Again, she has no respect for her boss or the patients. I'd want someone tidy & clean to deal with!!!!!!Yuck.

  5. a funeral is a function you dont attend everyday, most people who attend funerals go to show support for the living,  not for visiting the dead.

  6. Many funerals are considered to be formal events. Even the person who is dead is in a suit for God's sake!

I do agree with you that people should dress better for work especially if they work in professional settings.
