Question:

Why Do People Who Draw Manga Take Themselves So Seriously?

From what I have seen, people who draw manga pictures (unprofessionally) Ahem... Manga Artists, tend to be rather stuck up, at least as far as their drawings go. It seems to me that it's becoming less about drawing, and more about the style itself which is somehow inherently better than all others. And on top of that, it's a rather lazy and simplistic style.

What's the freakin' deelio?

  1. You will find that, generally, ARTISTS are serious about art!  The genre doesn't matter.  You could substitute nearly any genre of art for "manga" in your question.  Why do abstractionists take themselves so seriously?  Why do minimalists take themselves so seriously?  In every genre, there will be people who cannot see the humor in what they do.  Thankfully, they're offset by those who can find the humor life and bring it out with art.

Before you completely write a style off as "lazy and simplistic", try your hand at the style yourself.  You may find that it's not as simple to pull off as you initially thought.

  2. Oh yeah,

Dont worry about it...A lot of people who like Manga are ....socially awkward, and Manga is essentially fantasy to which they can escape (Im an F&TV student...so, I love escapism...bring it on)

And a lot of it is based on insecurities, after all, its just a hobby, thats generally not incorporating anything truly original, but they still generally put it out into the world to be critiqued, even if its just by their   peers. A lot of them just want to be acknowledged for SOMETHING.

But dont judge them all so harshly - Once you get to know some people there not always the w#ankers you originally thought they were.

P.S - If Manga Artists really get on your nerves, avoid Journalism students/ Journalists altogether. Those guys either love the sound of their own voices, Are as dense as oak, or have a stick shoved so far up their behind it keeps triggering their gag reflex.

....Gee, I hope your not a Journo student....:D

  3. Hello there,

NOTE: This is my personal opinion. I am not a professional. Use my advice at your own discretion.

I am not a manga drawer, just to let you know before I start to answer your question.

Okay, so, you asked why people who draw manga take themselves seriously? Well, my answer is the same answer to someone who asks, "Why do hockey fans take the NHL seriously?" Well, every one of us have passions, and some people are passionate about manga. You see?

Oh, and if I were you, I would not be stereotypical. I do not mean to scold you or lecture you, but not every manga drawer is "stuck up", as you put it. There are many people who draw manga, some of which are "stuck up", some that are far from it. There are different types of people in every group of people, and some of them can fit into the stereotype and some people don't. That is the point I am trying to make with all of this: you can't say that ALL manga drawers are "stuck up", etc.

Also, calling manga a "lazy and simplistic style" can be taken offensively by someone who draws manga. I understand it is your opinion, and you have the full right to say it, however, I just wanted to bring that point up. Just in case another user may find your question offensive (I personally do not, but some one else might!)

Anyway, I hope this answers your question. Good luck!

  4. well not all manga artists are like that. i like drawing manga but i do other forms of art too like abstract, watercolor, collage, oil pastel, ect. actually it's not a lazy style because you have to work hard to get everything right, sometimes it takes me hours to get a drawing right. and sometimes simplistic is good. and i don't think i'm stuck up just because i draw manga sometimes. i knw a lot of people who draw manga very well, it actually helps them in form and abstract art (at least for me it does), and they do have a social life. manga drawing is just a hobby (for me) and is can be made into a career for other people and it's just like any other job. they have to take it seriously and have confidence that they're one of the best to convince other people that they can do it (including big companies that could hire them).

  5. I dont know why they do,,,cuz I dont!
