Question:

Why Do Republicans/Conservatives Only See Things in Extremes?

Republicans/ Conservatives will say:

"If you don't support the war, you don't support our troops.

If you're pro-choice you're pro-abortion.

If you're for protecting the environment, you're against big business.

If you're against big business you must be a Communist, Fascist or Socialist.

If you're any of the above then you must love big invasive government.

If there's a "moral decline" in our society, it's b/c of TV, music &/or g**s & lesbians & not that parents are working more.

If you demand reasonable gun laws & accountability of gun owners, you must be trying to take away all guns.

If you demand accountability of find any fault with America or our governments behavior, you're anti-American or hate America.

After 9/11 George W. Bush said "if you're not with us, then you're against us" & called into question anyone's patriotism who differed from his opinion.

Why Do Republicans/Conservatives Only See Things in Extremes? Why aren't there every any gray areas?

  1. You ought to go to the Daily Kos if you want to see true extremism. One comment, the president made that statement concerning Countries that sponsered state terrorism, not in reference to Democrats. And as far as "patriotism" was concerned it was the Democrats that not 10 days after 9-11 asked "what did the president know and when did he know it". (Interesting they said that when Clinton had known what was coming in 96) Also several Liberals started floating the 9-11 "conspiracy theories" most notably Cynthia McKinney and a couple others. (hardly the act of patriots.)

  2. We don't, why do Democrats always make such broad unsubstantiated statements?

  3. When did being gray ever accomplish anything??

  4. You've set up quite a line of straw men there.

I am a conservative, and I'm far more inclined to respect the views of my liberal friends -- because they're my friends, and I respect them personally -- than they are of respecting mine.

Let's see if I can add to the answers you've received thus far from my conservative siblings:

If I think people should be allowed to pray in school, I must be trying to tie government to religion. (Of course, if I'm muslim ... or, well, anything other than Christian ... then prayer is okay.)

If I want lower taxes (with requisite reductions in federal spending on social programs), I must hate poor people.

I want secure -- really secure -- borders, so I must be a xenophobic protectionist that hates foreigners.

I think Social Security should be privatized, so I must hate old people and be a short-sighted idiot.

I think the Dept. of Education, the IRS, the NEA and about 40 other government agencies are about 10 times larger than they need to be (the NEA is just a complete waste), so I must hate children, poor people, and art.

Unless I'm perfectly okay with homosexuality, I'm a bigot and a hatemonger. Hey, I'm not okay with heterosexual adultery ... does that make me narrow-minded, too?

If you found yourself nodding after any of these, congrats -- you're an extremist.

  5. And Democrats/Liberals are any different?

If you're a soldier.. you must be a war criminal and a "baby killer"

If you want justice and support Law & Order.. you must be a fascist.

If you support economic growth.. you must be a lobbyist for some evil corporation.

If you support expanded domestic energy production so we're not so reliant on unreliable source.. you must be working for Exxon.

If a non-Democrat wins an election.. it must be because somebody rigged the voting machines.

If a general takes a position that a strategy is working.. he must be lying and betraying the country.

Deal with your own extremists first, then come point out ours.

  6. It's probably due to their rather unhealthy obsession with EXTREMITIES...LMAO!

Seriously, cons are, for the most part, incapable of putting things in perspective.  There can only be "black & white" in their simplistic little worldview...unless, of course, they are intentionally muddying up the waters in order to cover up for their own misdeeds and lack of knowledge on a given topic.  Hah!

  7. They are blind.

  8. There are no gray areas when you're right!

  9. um excuse me but you can support the troops and not support the war.

say your son or someone you know is fights in the war.

you support their decisions, but you dont like war.

    and why does it matter?

dont get so consered about what other people believe.... its non of your busness.

    :)

  10. Good thing liberal Democrats don't do that, huh? That's why you hate Bush, no matter what he does? No extreme there.

I am pro-choice, but not pro-abortion. I don't think pro-abortion exists. If you are against business, you are a socialist. I think TV helped my son start talking and have never thought of it as a "vast waste land." I think g**s should be able to get married because it doesn't effect me at all. Parents ARE working too much and tend to award their children, through their guilt, by too much freedom and expensive toys. However, being a stay at home mom, I realize just how difficult it is and what a huge struggle it is without two paychecks. Most parents have to work just to make ends meet. I don't think we should have guns in our homes and I don't think the Second Amendment means what the NRA makes it out to say. Bush meant the world when he said that and didn't call into question everyone's patriotism who disagreed with him. However, you people who blame him for things, like this, when he didn't mean what you claim it does are full of extreme hate and don't want to know the people you generalize about. You don't mention "gray areas." You go with the opposite, not somewhere in the middle.

  11. Cause those with zealously end up changing the world while those with common sense and are moderate usually sit on the fence, ***** moan how things are and allow those who are extremists to boss them around any ways. Why is this?

  12. Fear makes people behave in extreme ways.

Republicans/Cons are afraid they might have to sacrifice something, then they won't get theirs.  Their mantra?  "Where's mine?"

  13. Democrats/Liberals:

If you say anything bad about a minority, you're a racist. (Even if the criticism is true.)

If you believe in personal responsibility, you're evil and you don't want to help people.

If we allow people to have guns, the streets will turn into the OK Corral.

If you listen to talk radio, you're a "ditto-head" who can't think for themselves.

If you don't believe that the g*y lifestyle is perfectly OK, you're a homophobe.

If you won't sacrifice to save some insignificant species of fly, you want to destroy the planet and pollute the waters.

Both sides have their extremists. You're statement that all conservatives think the way you say they do is proof that you, too, are an extremist.
