Why Do Stinging Nettles Exist?

They Seem So Pointless, They Seem To Have No Fruit, So What Are They Protecting?

They are protecting themselves and seem to be very effective since they are so abundant and widespread.  Look at it this way:  Some DNA found a way to replicate itself.  The outcome was stinging nettles.

I would think they are there to protect their surrounding environment / plants / animal life form from predatory insects and threats - bit like body guards.

Think I;ll get me some to push infront of me in a buggy and stick some out of my handbag lol
