Why Do They Call It "Local On The 8s"?

  1. It may be on channel 8, not sure.


  2. I think it's because they talk about 8 different categories of weather; like temp., atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, etc. And local because it is in your area. : )

  3. She's talking about the Weather Channel.

    Although I can't say this with 100% certainty, I've always thought it was because it takes about 2 minutes so that on the hour and half hour they can promptly start the next program.  They're hoping that if they go right from the weather update into their next program (the Weather Channel has an incredible amount of scripted programming now) then those who just watched their local weather will stick around to watch the program.

  4. the times, in minutes, like 5:08, 5:18, 5:28 and so on

  5. it may be because its takes a few minutes to show then they can start their next program on time without commercial interference.

  6. It is an arbitrary time they picked to do their updates: 08, 18, 28,38,48 & 58 minutes past the hour.  Some stations do it on the 9's - whatever sounds cool to them...
