Question:

Why Do Tips Suffer on Sundays??

Ive been a waiter at two different restraunts and there is one consistent thing; people tip way less on Sunday. I usually make 18-19 percent average but on sunday i swear it must be 12 percent. I made $50 yesterday working a double when I usually make that on one shift any other day. Is there any particular reason for this?

  1. Are you busier on Sunday afternoons and the customers think they are not getting good service.  The restaurants where I live are normally busier on a Sunday afternoon, and at some of them you dont see the waiter/ress as much as you would like just due to the fact there are more people and they have all the tables full.

  2. I used to be a waitress and I noticed the same thing.  You wouldn't happen to be in the Bible Belt, would you?  I was, and the people wanted to "punish" me for working on Sunday--they seemed to miss the fact that if they weren't there stuffing their faces, wait people would not HAVE to work on Sunday.  I once had a man to ask me "Do you know that it is a sin to work on Sundays?".  I said "Well, if I wasn't here, who would fill your glass?".  He just looked at me like he felt pity for me.  He was a JERK!

  3. maybe the church goers gave all the money they can at church??

  4. I agree that those church goers, tend to tip less.

  5. I wasn't aware of that. I will pass this info on to my fam and friends.

  6. I think that a lot of people go out to eat on Sunday's after Church with other people from their Church to be social..  but sometimes cannot really afford to go where the other people want to go..  as a result they scrimp on the tip b/c they are embarassed to say to the other couple/family/person that a slice of pizza is more their budget than a $17 dinner.

it could also be that people realize by Sunday afternoon that they spent too much on Friday and Saturday and as a result behave cheaply by undertipping..

  7. its because people that go to church on sundays usually are really nice generous people, but they dont  go to restaurants on sundays. so on sundays you probably dont get much tip because the super nice generous people arent there on sundays.

please email me back! why did you stop emailing me?  :(

  8. Does your resturant have Sunday specials that are cheaper? That can be it.  I was a server also, at Red Lobster, and found the same thing. I don't want to discriminate, but just being honest alot of older people come in on Sunday's and they tend to tip less all the time (no offense to any seniors).

  9. does it have anythign to do with you closing earlier?
