Why Do most Of my friends Become nurses?

Question

All my friends start off going to university to become Doctors, entering university with exceptional marks, with the ambition and determination. They had completed 4th year, exiting with a mediocre GPA and disbelieve in becoming a doctor and becoming a nurse.

On the other side my friends go into engineering, and after a few years hate there profession, mainly because they felt engineering would be an easy job, not looking at the heavy mathematics required for the job.

Whys This?

and is this Common?

Part of going to school is to figure out what you want to be. It sounds like they just changed their minds because of expectations changing.
