I'm mixed and no matter how many times I say I'm mixed everyone still continues to call me black. My mother was white and my daddy is black and I guess they don't understand that. Why do people continue to call me black knowing that I'm mixed?

  1. because we live in a world where ones race is determined by how you look, i dont know how many times Mariah carey has to tell people she is mixed, by ignorant people assuming she is white just because she has white skin.. it is sad and if you dont have the support and loving parents who can explain to you better so you will understand you will feel like how you do now, and some mixed people feel that way because they  have ignorant parents who fail to give them the support and explain to them so they are better prepared for the world.. I really hope that one day you will understand..  My husband is white and our daughter is 13 and she has always talked to us about how she feels and we are always there to help her, she knows what this world is like and she is very well prepared for anything that comes her way, she has experienced a similar situation like what you said but i told her the same thing i told you that people will ALWAYS see you as black even though you are "mixed" i told her that as long as she embrases her irish side along with her jamaican side then thats all she needs to worry about, she does not live in this world to please other people, she lives in this world to please herself and as long as she knows where she stands thats all that matters, that was the 1 and ONLY time my daughter felt that way and now she is a strong girl and is very confident with herself, she is class president and gets along with everyone, i just hope that you will too one day.

    GOd blesss.

  2. SAME   HERE!!!...

      aint it  a    BYTCH!!...

must  be   all..   this  Obama  krap!!!

  3. Because everybody likes to stick people in categories.  You know what you are and that is all that matters.

  4. lol maybe because you look black. Does it really matter?

  5. My best friends mother is black and her father is white. She considers herself to be mulatto, and if anyone asks her heritage I tell them she is mixed. I don't consider her or her sister to be one race or the other. She looks more white but has her mothers hair while her sister is darker and has her fathers hair type.  But it annoys me when people say she's white and her sister is black. They have the same parents. My cousins are half asian and half white and people still call them full asian. It annoys me when people try to push others into a racial category. I'm part cuban but am considered white because of how pale my skin is.

  6. even if your mixed both white and black the black gene is most dominant....So ppl will relate you to your more dominant gene.

Ive heard this all the time.....Im black  but some ppl think i am mixed...sometime its easier for a black person to look mixed for then a white person to look mixed if u get what ah mean so thats why your classed as black....cause many blacks are mixed anyways.

  7. Because people have their own ideas about racial definitions.  You know what you are, and that's all that matters.

  8. one of us one of us one of us one of us

  9. Well ppl still stick with the rules from way back in slavery. If you even had 10% of black in you, you were considered black. I'm even guilty of doing it. And I dont know why.

Oh and my grandmother is asian and my other grandomother is irish..ppl always ask me if I'm mixed..I say no, b/c I consider myself black..So its kind of opposite for me..But who cares?

  10. Because in the western world..you are what you look..if you look black, you're just black.

  11. Because we live in a society, where people judge you by how you look. If you look black, they don't care if your mixed. It's the sad truth.

  12. I agree with what Marie said.

I know how you feel.  I'm biracial too...but I look completely white.  I actually look whiter than most so-called "white" women.   My father was also biracial and looked like a white man.

There will be people who insist on calling you "black" because of the One-Drop Rule.   Many people in America seem to believe that no matter how European a person appears, or who their parents are, African ancestry cancels that out.   I personally think that is BS.  Unfortunately, most people subscribe to this way of thinking.

Some people think you should call yourself "black" without acknowledging the other side of your heritage.    This is wrong...love and accept ALL of who you are.    Don't allow anyone to tell you what to be.   No one in America is of completely pure ancestry.   Some people simply don't realize this and they make stupid comments.   Just be proud of who you are and claim your own identity.

  13. My mother is also white, but take a good look at my avatar and tell me what you see?..You'll most likely see a black guy, so its because of that I claim to be black. If you look more black, then I think you should state it, so you don't confuse people.

  14. That is exactly what I keep asking about Obama.

You are blended, but society wants to force you into a black category and kick say you cannot belong to the good ol boys club

  15. You might look black. Cant satisfy all the people all of the time. dont try. I would say you look black. Aside from wearing a sign I would just keep educating people.
