Why Does My HDMI Picture Go Out?

I just got a Sanyo 42" LCD HDTV. I decided to connect my Laptop (HP DV6700) via the HDMI port on the laptop and tv. However, sometimes the screen will go completely blank for one or two seconds. It doesn't happen when I'm surfing the internet, but only when it seems to be performing some function, such as loading a program, or playing a game. I was wondering if it was the refresh rate of the screen, but it's 6.5 ms, which is as good or better than most lcd comp monitors. Is it my Laptop?
